Good Private Lessons?

Right, I can't swim. Some friends and I are going away on a big holiday somewhere hot next April and I'm sick of sitting on the boat while they all jump off (literally!). So, I'm going to learn how to swim. Attempted it twice, the last time was 4 years ago when I managed two lessons in Glenalbyn but my mate who was coming with me pulled out so I found several excuses as to why I was so busy and never went back.

So the deal is, I'm going to try and learn how to swim in the next ten weeks or so, with the ultimate goal of being able to swim a couple of lengths of the pool. (I'm terrible in deep water, start panicking and flailing around, but I guess it's all about practice.) None of the lads seem keen on going with me to group lessons (which is fair, they'd have to pay for em) so my rough plan is to pay for one hour lesson one-on-one, once a week, then get one of my mates to come swimming with me one other evening during the week, to do my 'homework' as it were.

So, could anyone recommend a good swimming instructor? How much would I be talking here for lessons? I live in Rathfarnham and go to UCD so somewhere around there'd be great.

    Thanks!

    Couple of tips.
A swimming lesson is not a magic trick, its not hey presto and practise this once before I see you again and you can swim. If you want to learn in 10 weeks, then you'd better be prepared to put in at least 4 sessions per week. Its about muscle memory and your body, there is nothing any instructor, group private or otherwise can do to save you the hard work. On the other hand, if you are prepared to do the practice and focus on what you are doing then you'll only need one lesson per fortnight. Try DIT Kevin St. or Bart Nolan in the Mespil on sussex road, one has private, the other has inexpensive group sessions. Best of luck.
