Future-Proof (So Far As Is Possible) Cabling For DTT?

    Hi,

I'm currently placing AV wiring in a wall that will carry one AV set-up on each side of it - one better-than-entry-level (sitting-room), and one entry-level (kitchen).

I'm fitting the apropriate SCART, HDMI & speaker cables for what I know I'll be fitting, but I'm unsure what to do with the TV cables.

In the kitchen, I'll have a free satellite receiver and a DTT receiver (when they come out). The free satellite receiver will be the SilverCrest SL-65 (from Lidl :o) that's currently in my sitting room. This requires one satellite cable feed. I presume any DTT receiver will require one aerial feed. So I need to feed one satellite cable and one DTT cable to the wall point in the kitchen. Simple enough.

In the sitting room, I'll have a Freesat HD PVR (probably Humax Foxsat HDR320) and a DTT PVR (possibly Sony PlayTV, presuming it will become viable). The Foxsat HD PVR will require two satellite cable feeds. PlayTV would require one aerial feed, but if it transpires that it won't ever be viable for Irish DTT, I'll obviously have to get something else, which is where I need advice:

Do I take the chance that any DTT PVR that comes to the market will need just one aerial feed (as per PlayTV, Humax PVR-9300T, etc), or do I assume that it could require two (like the satellite PVRs), and fit two coax cables from the DTT aerial (via a splitter/booster, of course) to the wall point where the DTT PVR wil be?

    Thanks for any replies,

    Mark

In the main sitting room, I'd recommend chasing a minimum of 4 copper coaxial cables (eg. TX100, CT100, etc). Even if you only use 3 of them initially, it's never any harm to have a spare. The spare may also be used for a return feed to a bedroom for example (if you've a modulator)
