Patent leather care?

I bought a pair of white patent leather Dolce and Gabbana runners and after only a couple of weeks of wear all the patent leather has small cracks on it where creases would appear on normal leather. Does anyone know how to treat these? a friend suggested vasaline, has anyone heard if this works?
