    Thursday 13th November

NYJ @ NE (8:15et) Last season it was so comfortable for us Patriots fans, we tuned in to the game to see how much we'd win by and against the Jets, Dolphins and Bills we were wondering how many td's Brady would throw and how many Moss would get this week. Things have changed a lot, I said it at the time, I don't like having Brett Favre in our division and thats with a fit Tom Brady, add to that the running game they discovered last week and we have something to be very worried about. This one could be very tight. I go for the Patriots to take the game for a couple of reasons. Firstly and most importantly Matt Cassel has looked comfortable for the last few weeks, secondly BenJarvus Green Ellis has impressed me over the last two games. I think he gets the nod again this week and he certainly has a future with the Patriots. While a lot of Cassels throws are short, he is finding Moss a bit more and Jabar Gaffney has got a few looks as well, one in particular I remember in particular was the one that went through his hands when he was free and clear with the endzone waiting. I am really looking forward to this game tonight. The old rivalry is back in full swing and its a huge game. We win this and in Miami next week and we almost certainly win the division.
    LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!

    Sunday 16th November

DEN @ ATL (1:00et) High scoring game for sure.
DET @ CAR (1:00et) Easy win for the Panthers.
PHI @ CIN (1:00et) Eagles bounce right back from last weeks dissapointment
NO @ KC (1:00et) I might change this later, Chiefs are using their quarterback and LJ is back after suspension. Still it looks like Reggie Bush will play and if thats the case they win another high scoring game
BAL @ NYG (1:00et) Giants to put up impressive numbers against a good defense.
MIN @ TB (1:00et) The Bucs have been impressive at home all season and I'll go for them even though I expect a tough game from a Vikings outfit that are surely lifted by defeating the Pack last week.
OAK @ MIA (1:00et) I hope I'm wrong about this one, please please Raiders shock but I cannot see them stopping the Dolphins.
CHI @ GB (1:00et) The Pack OL are going to be in all sorts of trouble in this game and I see the Bears running the ball all day long to the endzone.
HOU @ IND (1:00et) Looks like they have finally recovered from a very poor patch, so I'll take the Colts to do this the regular way and not like the ridiculous way they were handed the game earlier in the season.
STL @ SF (4:05et) The 49ers to 'Gore' their way to victory.
ARI @ SEA (4:05et) Easy win for the Cards, like every other team so far this season.
TEN @ JAC (4:15et) Somebody has to stop them, and the Jags are just the team to do it.
SD @ PIT (4:15et) God help Philip Rivers against this defense. God help the Chargers defence with Willie Parker back and fit. And Mewelde Moore could go over 100 yards as well.
DAL @ WAS (8:15et) Hard to predict, if Portis doesn't play it could be very close. I'll have to go with the Redskins though, they took care of business against the Cowboys when everyone was fit.

    Monday 14th November

CLE @ BUF (8:30et) I fancy the Browns for this one, the extra week will have helped Brady Quinn a lot, and the Bills have really stuttered over the last few weeks.

    9-5 the week
    72-54 the season

    New England
    Atlanta
    Carolina
    Philadelphia
    Kansas City
    Baltimore
    Tampa
    Miami
    Green Bay
    Indianapolis
    St. Louis
    Arizona
    Jacksonville
    Pittsburgh
    Dallas
    Cleveland

Taking New England because New England run a good 3-4 with an excellent nose tackle, which could shut Thomas Jones up and force Brett Favre to throw the ball all the time. Which leads to INTs, which means losses. Kansas City over New Orleans because Thigpen, against all odds, is starting to pull it out and they have their LJ run game back this week too. NO have no pass D at all. Green Bay to beat Chicago because I like Green Bay. Jax to win, because if anyone can ram it down the Titans' throat it's WHO? POCKET HERCULES

NYJ @ NE (8:15et) - Pats to the Playoffs.

    Sunday 16th November

DEN @ ATL (1:00et) - From the abyss of last season the Falcons have become one of the best teams in the NFC.

    PHI @ CIN (1:00et)
    NO @ KC (1:00et) - Second easiest.
BAL @ NYG (1:00et) - I'm tempted to pick the Ravens here. They can stop the run pretty well.

Wished I recorded last nights game looked like it was a brilliant one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,450 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I'm gutted after last night. We fought our way back into it and that holding call on Teddy Bruschi was terrible, it turned out as being a game decider.
As I've said many times before, Favre playing for the Jets is sick. I am getting close to disliking the man.

We learned a lot from the game again. The O line has to do a better job of protecting Matt Cassel. He played well again last night. He knows his limits and he plays within them as much as possible but he is playing well, if he had a bit more time, who knows how good he could be.

We need a lot to go our way now, the Steelers game is huge now as is the Dolphins game next week.

Having said all that the Jets were impressive in the first half on both sides of the ball. I don't know their full schedule but it can't be that tough, I think we need them to lose two games to have any hope of winning the division as we well definitely be losing one of our remaining games. Hopefully only one.

The one on Vrabel may not have been holding but it was pass interference imo.

Best game of the season thus far. Was so sure we would lose it after Moss' spectacular catch in the final second of regular time. But the drive we stuck together in OT was as good as I've seen from us (eventhough we nearly went 3 and out but NE blew coverage on Keller on the first 3rd and 15).

This was not Favre's win though - even if the media will spin it that way. We struggled to move the ball when we chose to pass on first / drop Favre with an empty backfield. The drives that were successful involved giving the ball to Thomas Jones and allowing him to shorten the field for Favre on first and second down. In the offseason we spent a lot of money putting together a team that could win with a mistake free game manager in Pennington at the helm (line upgrade, defense upgrade), and the times we have looked bad this season is when we have forgotten that. Yes, Favre is a legend blah, blah. But what is becoming good about us is having him there as insurance - not making him the star attraction.

It's almost like we get a free shot to knock off the Titans next week. There is obv a lot more work to do, and it is eminently possible that we could miss out on the playoffs even if we went 10 - 6. But we're in good shape thus far. :)

its good to see the Jets use thomas jones a lot better, then toget Farve into the game and not soley depending on magic from Farvre.

    Great win

Great performance from Matt Cassell. It's those 4th Q 0:01 on the clock touchdowns that make football great.

Well done to the Jets though, as annoying as they are (booing Brett Favre a few weeks ago? What the ****?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

was an absolutely great game to watch, i was pretty heartbroken at the end though, its gonna be tough to reach the playoffs now, but Cassell is starting to really grown into the role now, if he could just learn to throw the deep ball we would be in pretty good shape

I felt the Jets were lucky to win, the Pats did everything in their power to self destruct. I dont think the Jets won because they were the better team, they won because the Patriots made a lot of stupid mistakes (maybe you can argue that, that is the definition of a better team).

The holding call on Vrabel was a bullsh1t, extremely harsh, cost us the game.

Also it was a bit ridiculous in a game where each offense was going to score at least a FG on their next drive that a coin toss decided who'd win

Cassel played very well like he has nearly all season, but his last drive was incredible to watch. Biggest issue is not being able to throw the deep ball, which could be a season killer if Moss got injured, as teams wouldnt respect our ability to go long and push their safeties up and distrupt Cassel's short passing game. But hopefully he can improve in that area like he did in his pocket presence.

What cost us the game was not stopping the obvious dump passes to an open tightend. Keller got something like 22 yards in OT on its own.

And what will hamper us all season long will be Cassells inability to hit WR deep. Twice he over threw Moss which would have been certain TD's. He needs to work on that fairly quickly. Honestly the Patriots put themselves in to a silly situation. It was good to see in the second half the jets not been able to handle the pressure when Cassell realised those quickfire balls he can throw over the middle being very effective. And the jets gifted us before half time going into that prevent formation instead play as is. Its funny before half time they were stuffing us and then they switch formations allowing Cassell to get off quick passes short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Karlusss

Not stopping the dumps is a result of good coverage on the WRs (which is where you hope Favre is going to go/have to go), rushing the passer and stopping the run. You can't stop everything. I think Keller came up bigger than the gameplan would've hoped.

With Cassell, I'm not sure throwing the ball deep is something you "learn". You either have the arm-strength or you don't, and it's more a matter of confidence, fast receivers and coverage errors that make it happen. It'll come.

Nah not that all twice our inside coverage was poor hence why Keller was open to begin with. In one he caught a 16 yard pass and he came straight off the line of scrimmage and Woods who was actually supposed to cover him decided to cover the RB instead. Bad coverage. The lack of experience in our LB core showed as the inside covering was poor. The Jets didn't use a spread offense so only our DB's would have been covering the WR at most. You can forgive the odd dump pass to a TE after few plays but one after another has nothing to do with good coverage on the WR. Yes our corners didn't give Favre an option to the outside but Keller should never have been open as much as he was was. Keller had 22 yards across the middle Coles had 16 across the middle Jones had 8 and then 2 runs by Jones. 46 yards across the middle on one drive is madness. Bad inside coverage.

Cassell has the ability to throw long his accuracy just stinks put it this way if he is over throwing Moss it means he has the strength his timing and accuracy is off. Whether he can fix it is another thing. Talking to my buddy who was a QB he said there is methods for fixing this and drills to put Cassell under pressure and making him throw long. Its then down to the QB and WR being on the same page when a deep ball is thrown but Moss is a given if in Single coverage you just need to get the ball to him.

Romo having a nightmare, 2 ints so far in the 1st half. Looks like the injury is having a bad effect on his passing.

still see the cowboys winning this one, well, maybe i dont, but i see the even money being offered on paddypower as being very inviting

now 11/10 has to be worth a punt! if the skins dont get some points from this drive the cowboys go favorite imo

Game getting interesting now with that big sack and missed FG. You might be right there kryogen.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

aye, it was a must win game for the cowboys if they want to have any hope of the playoffs but what can you say about Barber in the 4th quarter??

great effort by him to keep the chains going on the ground constantly and get the win for the cowboys and the win for me with the bookies! always nice :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

Great call there kryogen - I must admit I was sceptical they could do it, particularly about 25 minutes into the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Karlusss

Barber is pretty much unstoppable in the fourth quarter with the lead. The more I see the Cowboys, the more I think they should be winning so much more than they are. On paper, that's a ridiculous team. Romo, Barber, F. Jones, Witten, a rookie backup tight-end who can make tough end-zone catches, Owens, Williams and Crayton/Austin as 3/4 WR!

Pity about TO not being as involved though. A lot of his Week 1/Week 2 enthusiasm for blocking and chasing down CBs who intercept seems to be wearing off.

First time Iv enjoyed the Cowboys in almost 2 months. A very competent performance, with Marion Barber as the star
