Just looked on www.ebookers.ie and seems most things all involve one stop. Have you tried looking at direct flights from the UK? Much bigger market and much more likely. Your mate will probably find it easier changing flights in the UK too (it's probably the country most like Ireland to be honest to make your mate feel at home).

American Holidays http://www.americanholidays.com are doing flights direct to toronto with Air Transat for next year. What dates are they looking at travelling?

Have Air Transat gone year round? I know Air Canada are only seasonal.

If so, Air Transat is probably the only choice at the moment.

No Air Transat's program only starts in May.
