Anyone used dickybow.ie or know where to get decent priced black tie wear in Dublin?

Not the shop - just the form of clothing!

Need to go to something black tie next week and am thinking of buying rather than renting as it may come in handy again in the future.

Someone suggested I could get away with buying a good black suit and then the winged shirt and bow-tie to finish... that would suit me fine as I need a good general black suit and would find far more use for it than a dedicated tux.

But I'm not sure if that's... "acceptable".

Any thoughts or suggestions on where I'd find a decent black tie get-up for sale without paying a fortune?

    Thanks

Just did a search there and came across www.dickybow.ie.

Anyone ever used it and know what it's like?

Debenhams are a good bet - take a look at Marks & Spencer also. Or you could ask Blacktie or other rental companies - they sell off their suits at certain times and you could get a suit that still looks well at a bargain price.

I have been to countless black-tie events including balls and weddings and 60% (or more) of men are wearing black suits with wing shirt and bow-tie. I can honestly say that I've never heard anyone comment on it, I think it is standard practice.

Marks and Spencers doing basic Tux's for €75. The finish isn't as nice as the more expensive ones obviously but no one will notice or care to be honest. Only prob with the M&S tux imo is that it's not a tail tux so it doesn't sit great on everybody.

Rather tangential to the subject, but I'd love to know where one could buy a floppy bow-tie anywhere. I'm partial to some of the really old-fashioned stuff.
You can buy the standard little bow-tie and the western-style shoelace tie but not a floppy.

    flogen, three options:
    Marks & sparks
Go into a tux rental place and ask for an ex rental suit - usually E150 and better quality.
Burton have one at the moment, have only seen pics rather than in person but looks fashionable as these things go.
My own preference? Get the ex-rental one.

The key is to get a bow tie you can tie yourself, don't get one of the clip on ones. Debenhams good for that.
