MBP Battery problems

So the battery on my macbook pro was going along nicely at about 80% capacity for the last while, then tonight I check the health of it and the capacity was down to 40%! I had taken it off mains power (I usually get between 2-2.5 hours on it) and within 10 minutes I had the "battery reserve" notice pop up. The notebook went to sleep after that.

Curiously though I can still wake her up and I'm getting charge unknown message from iStat.

This is my second battery from Apple, got it in August last year as the old one had similar problems and was warping.

Cycle count is 197 and condition is "Check battery".

I will try recalibrating, but I had these problems before...

I have Applecare. Is it likely Apple will replace this one if this continues?

do you keep your battery in good shape? i.e. do you constantly discharge it & charge it or do you keep it topped up?

might seem like a pointless question but i've got about 200 cycles on my 4 year old powerbook. Essentially the point is that if you are frequently away from power for long stretches your battery is going to degrade quicker as you are persistently doing deep discharges and recharges and so quickly racking up the cycles.

Actually if your battery is above 300 cycles they won't replace it under warranty even if still covered.

There might also be a rogue process sucking up full CPU - but the quick drop is a little suspect. Calibrate and see if it helps.

I would suspect that they would replace it if calibration does nothing.
