For the last year or so I have been on NTL 20mb. Most of the time it worked ok but was a bit problematic sometimes.

I have just moved house and this time only got the 10mb line. It actually seems faster sometimes - but a better service all together. Previously on the my max download speeds from Rapidshare.com were 1.5mb/sec, I was expecting this to half, but I'm getting 1.2mb/sec now even though I'm only on the 10mb line. However my P2P speeds have improved massivly. I use Ares Galaxy and before it was quite slow with many downloads in the single digit speeds ages. Bittorrent links I barely bothered with they were so slow. Now ares downloads fly and I think I'm getting what should be normal BT speeds.

So with all the problems I had before, maybe it was just where I lived and the exchange I was on etc, cause I'm using the same hardware and they all seem to have gone away!

    Interesting....

your rapidhsare speed is ,most likely the speed limit at their server end, not on your connection. i don't use it myself, but I'm sure i've seen people mention the download speed is capped at 1.5mbps depending on what sort of account you have. maybe someone can confirm this?

if that is indeed the case the fact that it has changed at all seems to indicate some problems with your 10mbps connection.

you might want to consider doing a few proper (repeated) speed tests to find out what speedyou're actually getting at any given time.

lather rinse repeat a few times and let us know how you get on. :)
