I always buy Asics. Recently bought the 2130s , found them wider than the Kayano 14.
Almost went for New Balance. Are Asics still king of the roads in Ireland for road running/training?

Saucony which I don't see in the poll.
I'm very happy with them and a repeat customer

    Brooks
Adidas Supernova Cushion. Suit my gait, comfortable and light. I have a couple of pairs in reserve too so I'll be sticking with them for a while :)

Don't think there's such a thing as "best runners" - it's each to their own depending on gait, biomechanics, type of running etc.

For my severe overpronation, I'm a Brooks Adrenaline fan coupled with orthotics.

Remembered Saucony after I posted the poll

The title should be which brand do you prefer. I always wore mizuno but recently bought a pair of Asics Kayano 14 don't like them, the mizuno give much better support, use the Asics for short runs until, but for longer will grab the mizuno. For me at the end of the day stick to what I know works.

I have a slight preference for my New Balance shoes, I bought a Brooks pair about a month ago and just can't seem to get to like them.

Always used to wear Asics but had some problems early in the year, was running in Asics Nimbus and then bought a pair of Newbalance 1062 and found them great, might stick with them from now on.

At the moment i'm running in both (not at the same time ;) )

I used to run in Asics Kayano's but then i got one of those gait analysis and that switched me over to the Asics Nimbus. I find them great I have the nimbus 9 but they are on the way out so i am going to get the nimbus 10. On that note where in Dublin is the best place to buy?

Asics Kinsei suit me best. Tried the Kinsei II, but didn't like suit me at all, and they're a lot heavier. Back to Kinsei I, which I've been ordering over t'internet, as they're end of life'd. Need to find a new brand/fit, as doubt I'll be able to get any more pairs of Kinsei I. I'm a neutral.

Asics for stability usually but I really need to get a gait check doen? Anyone know anywhere in Limerick or close that I could get it done before I follow the runners world shoe guide to the shelf?

Try Siobhan in the Limerick sports store, she is well up on shoes. Bought my Asics 2130 there last week. Went in to buy the Kayanos but she changed my mind - glad too very comfy.

I had always used Gel ds trainers and tiger paw for racing up to DCM 08 . Went with Mizuno precision 8 for this year , I can defo say it was the worst mistake (well proabably not worst) i have made while they were good and light for training and racing , i developed awful problems with my knees and have resulted in me getting orthotics . Maybe with the asics i used , these problems were hidden due to better cushioning or just were more suitable with my gait and overpronation (was told by phsyio that my geometrcs of my legs were disgracfeully bad !)

I have just started using my orthotics just wonerding has anyone else them fitted and how do they find them , do they take much getting used to when running ,
can you get away with purchasing a neautral pair of runners rather than ones for overpronators or suppinators ?

For my 2 cents on shoes i dont think i will be staying with mizuno , death traps ....

Mizuno wave creation 9. I better change them soon though. Advised in Amphibian King.

I have two pairs of custom made orthotics - one pair that I use for running, and one pair I use day-to-day in other shoes. If they are fitted properly, then you shouldn't even notice them in your shoe.

Although, not sure whether it means you can use neutral runners. I still wear runners with strong support, although I tested these whilst wearing the orthotics.

@Peckham, where do you get orthotics? I'm starting to think I need them, my shins were killing me today after a run..

Sore shins might not mean you need orthotics. I wear orthotics but I would suggest you only get them as a last resort. If things like improving your technique / strengthening exercises / stretching / training correctly aren't going to solve your problem then perhaps you should get orthotics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,558 ✭✭✭Peckham

As above, I believe orthotics should only be prescribed by a professional (i.e. physio), as mine were. They're not really an off-the-shelf solution.

Check out some strengthening exercises. If these don't work, then go see a physio and get the problem checked out.

After bruising (and later losing) two toenails running in Asics Kayanos I had my gait analysed and got a pair of New Balance which were infinitely better for me. However, they're not perfect so will be going back again to look a more suitable pair. I'm a fan of New Balance in general now though.

Used to wear Kayanos, but now its 2130s.

I've various runners for the trails and hills: inov-8s, helly hansens and my most recent buy was adidas swoop at the Marathon expo.

    +1 on orthotics.
I've been wearing physio prescribed orthotics for the last few years, ever since biomechanincs were explained to me. I found that certain pains I was getting disappeared after wearing them. I use neutral runners after gait analysis with the orthotics in.

Trails, hills and beaches I wear Salomons.

Early evening i think i have the same Mizunos (not sure wheher they are creeation or precision) as you , they have ablue sole , anyway they weren't suitable for me even though they are fairly light for training and racing, had to put in those airpillows absortion insoles and metarsal bar to try and get me through dublin

I am thinking of replacing the death traps for some adidas , remeber i used to run in them as a kid as well as Nike and found they were quite good (distances involed were only up to 10 k ), anyone any preference for them as a lightweight trainer or racer ?.

I would gather that with a neutral shoe and orthotics you dont need the extra weight and cushioning you get from the higher end asics models like kaynao or kinseis etc. as you foot is corrected without any need for igs systems that asics use .

When you say some pains , you mean it doesn't get rid of the pains in which they were prescribed ?

I mean that I used to get discomfort in my shins and now, with the shoe and orthotic combination, I don't.

Reading through these posts the central message seems to be to get gait analysis done so that the runner you buy suits your particular gait. As well as Amphipian King Runways in Parnell St do it for those of us based in Dublin/Leinster. I am sure that there are others if anyone wants to advise.

BTW mine are Brooks Glycerin 6 and have also used NB 1062.

Currently in Asics but badly need to get a gait analysis done.
Can anyone recommend anywhere in Cork?..or shall I be taking a road trip to Amphibian King, from what I've read here they've a fierce good setup/know their suff?!

Was a repeat customer for asics for several years... very good supportive shoes for the overpronator like me.

Recently moved to Mizuno Wave's. Very comfortable, and lightweight. Would definitely purchase another pair. Have a feeling that they might wear out a little quicker than the Asics, but time pounding the pavements will tell :D
