    Hey there,

Okay, so I hit the feck off pothole tonight, and the rim is pretty bad. i'm expecting a flat in the morning because of it. Also, heard knocking from front of car coming into driveway right after it :(

Would i get anything from the CC with regards to compo, or should I just grin and bare it?

    Thanks

My understanding is that you take a picture of the pothole, take a picture of the damage, detail the area of the pothole and the damage in writing and go to your local office as soon as possible, ie tomorrow and ask to see someone about it. They will investigate the matter.
I heard someone recently enough was successful with this in the Dundalk area.

I did exactly that some years ago and got fully compensated for wheel/Tyre and fitting. ;)

I'm off Thursday, I'l go down. Should i write a letter or just show up their door?

Also, should I mention the knocking on the car?

I'd imagine anything that's not visible would be hard to prove. However if it's coming from the same side as the wheel and you can get it diagnosed by a mechanic before you go in, I see no reason why you couldn't claim it was directly related. Vectra up above would be the man to ask.

If the pothole resulted from a botched road repair you may have a claim.

I would go a take a few photos of it asap.
If something else happens there and the counciol fill in the hole you could be out of luck

Mention the knock that is in the car now also.
    Never there before ?

The only way that you will successfully win your claim is if there was previously a pothole in that location that was repaired.

Well, the whole road is in ****e as it is, and you have to nearly drive on the other side of it. looks like they had it open laying pipes in the past.

Believe it or not the councils are only responsible if you can prove they previously repaired the area and didnt do it right. If a pothole develops where no pothole was before they are not liable but if as you say pipelaying work took place and the road is not put back right, you may well have a case.

My mum wrecked an alloy wheel a few years back with a pot hole on a dark night. She made an attempt to claim from the CC but could get no where they basically told her to F*** off.

They will claim above. If you can prove they knew about the pot hole and didnt fix it then you have some chance.

Tried this myself after knackering a tyre behind the Airport and was told to take a hike. Its very unusual to get money here in Ireland standard in the UK.

I'd still go in and kick up a stink. Worse that can happen is you'll walk out pi*sed off and tell us all about it. :)

I Snapped a wishbone or something to do with the suspension on an Alfa 156 between Barna and Spiddal a few years back. It cost over 800e to get repaired. I tried to claim from Galway CC but had no luck. Where I live now in MAyo, The roads are a disgrace. I am not exagarating but the Neale road just outside Ballinrobe is the worst Ive ever seen. It just seems to get worse and worse.

not totally. happened to me last year.

Got a cheque for both tyres. Took a while though. I'd say write to them rather than show up at the door, and get a mechanic to have a look at the knocking noise too, try and determine if it could have been caused by the impact

Could you go with them stating that they have not fulfilled their contractual agreement from a service? ie, you have paid Tax, to cover maintenance of roads. If you pay for a service and the other party does not fulfill their agreement, shouldnt you at least get your tax back?

I work for a pipelaying company and I know that if we dont sufficiently reinstate a trench after pipelaying and some damage occurs we generally pay up. More for PR that anything else. If it was a direct result of the pipelaying works I would go to the Council staff on site (AKA Re staff, They are generally based near the Main contractors office compound) and complain to them. From experience the RE staff will like nothing more than sticking it to the Contractor!:D

i have claimed from Dublin City Council 3 times over the last 5 years for wheel damage to my car after hitting a pot hole.

twice my own car and once my GF's car.

basically you write a letter of complaint to the claims department and include some pictures with a ruker held up to the hole if possible.

@ OP - PM me your email address and i will forward you on the exact letter i send to DCC last time.

dont wana post it here as it has private info such as her name, address, car details etc etc
