Permissions Prevent Moving Files

    Hi Folks,

    Ive just downloaded Eclipse to my desktop, extracted it and have played around with it for a while. I wanted to move it from my desktop but when I do move/copy it I get an error telling me that 'One or more items have special permissions and cannot be moved'. Ive set permissions to read&Write for all groups etc and made sure I am the owner and nothing is locked. Im all out of ideas so any suggestions welcome.

    Some general thoughts:

    Is your user an Administrator?
    Where/how exactly did you change the permissions/owners? (finder/terminal chmod/chown did you use the -R flag?)

    You can try to delete/trash the whole thing and extract it in the directory where you want to keep it.

    Some of the files may be held by processes, so a clean boot might help, too.

    Hey pvik00,

    Yep I am admin user but I only tried moving with finder. My Unix is bad but that was my next step. I tried doing it after a fresh restart too, no joy.

    The files are eclipse, I extracted it then updated it and installed some additions so Id like to avoid that process if possible.
