Apologies if this is not the correct forum, mods please move or delete if it doesn't belong here.

I have surround sound speakers that connect to my ancient DVD player via bare wires being clamped by the DVD player 00895651.jpg

That DVD is no defunct my other DVD player uses jack connectors for surround sound and my speakers are now obsolete, could anyone tell me of a decent way to connect them without losing too much quality?

Mark, I have a feeing your last player had speaker amps built in to it. Are you sure your new one does? If not you'll need 6 new channels of amplification for a 5.1 system.

hey, im assuming your new dvd player has 6 out's, (5.1) and that it didnt come with new speakers to suit it easily. (kinda odd)

dont be scared of speaker wire, it looks rough but even the most modern bachalors pad's are using speaker wires these days so i wouldnt call it obsolete.

iv actually never seen a home setup with jacks, and i just googled it there and by the looks of it you have the small cd player ones.

ill tell you this, then ill leave the rest to you:

a jack lead can either carry 1 or 2 signals. 1:mono 2:stereo. each one of your speakers will only be using mono, because wer not dealing with a small kitchen cd player here. were indeed spreading all the left sounds to the left and the right to the right in this sittin room o yours.

so with a mono wire, you will have a live and an earth, (and for the record a stereo is 2 live's and 1 earth covering). go into maplins and look for a small gadget that you can solder the live to the top part of a male jack (or bottom, i cant remembe. they call this tip and sleave.) and the earth to the bottom. the negative is the earth and the positive is the live.

give us a message and ill go thru it more with u man,

    nick
