Import now and VRT in Jan ?

    i came accross a great deal on a car in the UK
    if i was to buy it today could i VRT it in Janurary
    or would there be no real saving at all ?

    I dont see how you could save on it ????
    System is the same now as it will be in January right ?

    Due to the wonderful VRT system we have, the VRT is as likely to go up in January as it is to go down!

    Nope. You also risk being nicked for using it illegally in the state and having it seized by Customs. Just not worth the risk.

    No i wouldnt be using it at all
    i would leave it garaged till then

    Yes but it can go up as well as down. I was in a similar situation about 2 years ago and the VRT went up about €300 from when I checked it, to when VRTing the car the following week! (from about €3000 to about €3300 at the time)

    You are required to register it the day after you import it so sticking it in a garage won't matter.

    Unless that garage would be in the country where you bought it (i.e. not in the repubbalick of here), that would still be illegal.
