Not sure if any of you have seen this - but got the GUI newsletter today and this page is well worth checking out.

Hollywood Lakes at €20 Early Bird is excellent value. Loads of other offers.

    This is just a sample.
It is a pity that the clubs cannot add this type of information to their GUI page, as a form of club advertising.
The GUI would probably want to chage for it.
There are some great deals around, but finding them is the problem.

Did you actually read the stuff on the link? That's what the GUI is trying to do. Clubs with offers can inform the GUI and they will put the offers all in one place so the likes of us can go on and spot any potential ones of interest. Absolutely fantastic idea, and i'd be pretty sure the GUI aren't charging clubs for it. Just got to hope the clubs get involved and post their deals. Could be a great resource.

    I made the point badly....
Clubs currently have a page on the GUI site.
The offers should be an extension of that page, where clubs can edit themselves.
Obviously, given the few that are there, clubs do not know about it.
Most clubs are offering membership at the moment.

The GUI only added the page this week. It'll take time to get going, just like the open comps / membership search pages did. the number of clubs getting invloved in those rocketed after a while as word got out.

I like what the GUI has done. All the offers in one place on the site. Much more preferable than trawling through each individual club page.

By the sounds of it clubs just have to email or contact the gui with their offer details. If they can't manage that then there's something wrong...

there are now 29 clubs with special green fee rates - some really good deals.

Strandhill in Sligo is €30 and you get grub with that!

Here's a decent membership deal for those in North County Dublin... taken from the Irish Times.

Attractive introductory deal on offer at Donabate

DONABATE Golf Club have come up with a novel new category of membership which they are terming "introductory member".

Membership of this category is open to males and females and will be for a tenure of three years or otherwise as determined by the club council.

The annual subscription will be not less than the subscription paid by ordinary members.

Such members will enjoy full playing rights. However, they will have no ownership or voting rights and cannot serve on any club committee.

At the end of the three-year period they will have an opportunity to join as full members of the club at an entrance fee to be decided by the council.

The ordinary membership for the coming year has been set at €1,341.

For further details on the membership offers at the club, which boasts 27 holes, contact the club at info@donabategolfclub.com, www.donabategolfclub.com, Tel 8436346, Fax 8434488.

I can see a lot of clubs taking this approach.
    Good offer.

Yeah, i agree. I think even more clubs will go down this route. One thing that is evident in the past month or so is that clubs are really having to up the ante when it comes to attracting members. I fully expect competition to heat up even more between now and March too. Can only be a good thing for golfers... i for one won't be paying my 09 subs until i see what else is around.

This will be a big discussion point at many club AGM's.
After those are over, you will see many more offers.
Committees are phasing down at the moment and the new committees do not have the authority to implement changes yet.
    Roll on the AGM's.....

Those are the very deals I am after. What is Donabate like as a track?

Good course, if not spectacular. 27 holes and a good modern clubhouse house. Staff are very friendly.

As Graeme said.........reasonable course. Not too hard but interesting.

€1300 is quite a lot though (maybe clubs down South are more expensive than those up North).

There's loads of offers up there now - about 35 clubs I think.

Golf and Grub offers are most appealing to me!

    Rathsallagh offer for new members

RATHSALLAGH GC are offering €350 in guest green fee passes as part of the annual subscription to new members who take up the offer before December 31st.

For the last number of years Rathsallagh has had a facility whereby shareholders can nominate a friend as a member of the club for the year on payment of the annual subscription.

This year the scheme has been enhanced and the club is accepting new members on payment of the full annual subscription of € 1,654.

This fee includes GUI subscription, VAT and € 100 food and beverage credit, and the guest green fees.
