    Hi

Can we receive Thor 3/5 (0.8°W) and Intelsat 10-02 (1.0W) in dublin with a 80cm dish?

is the dish size enough or do we need a bigger size dish?

can anybody receiving the signals confirm please?

80cm is far to small for most channels but ok for a few. Especially with our weather it will be to small.

I'm in Dublin and have a zone 2 Sky dish (60cm) currently pointed at 1W. Thor 5 signal is very strong, it takes a lot of cloud/rain to knock it out (seems as strong as 13E or 19E), like last weekend. The 10-02 signals are the weakest, moderate rain will knock it out.

With a bigger dish (80cm, or bigger) and new equipment (dish and LNB I'm using must be pushing 10 years old) you might get better results.

Spot is hard to find though - this dish I have is moved about a lot, and even though I have marks on the brackets, I still usually find satellites either side before homing in on 1W.

Nah, BBC are feeding their live Autumnwatch through one of the TPs there. An Irish uplink company often use it as well, for uplinking dog meets. I usually move it around as I feel fit, it's normally at 5W.

Only free stuff for me, I wouldn't know how to get D!g! TV! BTW, Eurosport and Eurosport 2 are unscrambled on 13E this evening, don't know how long it's been on, or when it will end, but enjoy it while you can can (if you want).

Thread moved. Also, there's an existing thread about somebody having issues getting some tp on 1W with an 88cm dish

NOTE: Do NOT talk about getting PayTV illegally!

I watched the autumn watch feeds on this sat. found it quite funny when they made mistakes, especially Bill oddie who is a funny man anyway! Some transponders are extremely strong like i pointed out in another thread and others on the nordic beam are non exsistent here.

    unable to get it right..
standing in front of dish, i moved the dish to my left
    cant find 1w

Like I said, it's hard to find. Sats either side are easily found, so once you get either, move appropriately to get 1W (either left or right, and most likely up a bit - 1W is one of the highest sats from Ireland).

I can get it with a 60cm, it should be easier to get with an 80cm. Patience is the key; no patience, then give up on it now.

i am sure i will get my patience by weekend..and 1w too :-)

when you said highest-do you mean direction high?

Yes, relative to the dish orientation pointing at 28E, in addition to moving it left towards 1W (as you look at the dish from the front), it also needs to be pointing higher (needs to lean back further).

If you google "clarke-belt", you'll probably find some diagrams of the arc the satellites form in the sky, might make it a bit clearer to understand how the orientation changes with the different satellites.

Did you set the correct elevation first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,943 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

    its not motor
    its manual with monobloc lnb

It doesn't matter whether it's motorised or not. Set the dish to the correct elevation of 29 degrees and try again.

try using a normal single lnb instead of the monoblock

do you have clear pictures with 69% signal?

The signal quality thing on receivers will vary between makes and models. What's important is if it works in rain.

    indeed i do. i have a technomate 1500 plus motor:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,943 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

    i managed to get 11785.00 H on 0.8w with 72%
but none of the other TPs had signal
i tried to fine tune a lot
    but no use.

    i have a monobloc lnb of 6deg
what am i expected to receive on this monobloc?

i got most of the channels on 0.8w with 80% quality
but just a handful of 1w channels
all the movies channels are weak signals with just 60% or less
