Anyone know whats happening at the Bald Barista on Aungier Street? Theres a sign on the window saying something like "same owners, new management". Does that mean Buzz is gone? I know Darwins owned the shop

From what I understand, Buzz is:

    1. Selling current shop to business partner
    2. Moving Bald Barista brand to new location up the road - hostel Avalon House or similar - more couches, less food.

For your information, because a lot you you are misinformed.
The Bald Barista moved. Buzz was Bought out of the Cafe, not the other way round, he wasn't partner nor owner, just employee. There are many reason's for this but all somewhat private. Never believe anything that is forced upon you as a customer. Darwin's is a good cafe, it may be different from what the Bald Barista was, but change is good. Don't be critical because you've been misinformed. And no I'm not Biased, I've seen both side's, both attitudes and I know what I prefer. Both places make good coffee, may be different, but thats the point.

Darwin's is not ramshackle, it is only now gone back to how the owner's wished it would have been, there are two sides to every coin.

    End

    Hi Rob,

Why do you think someone was being critical of Darwins? There's nothing here to suggest that.

Jeez, someone needs to ease off on the espressos a touch.

I figured out where "ramshackle" came from.

Buzz has moved his operation down to the Avalon House hostel (just down the street from what is now known as Darwin's cafe). Popped my head in there the other day, looks a bit ramshackle to be honest. Buzz wasn't around, and although his other baristas are generally ok, I moved on.

I'd hope it's fairly obvious that I was referring to the Bald Barista's spot down at Avalon House, which had just opened, and in my opinion, did look a bit ramshackle. After all, it is in a hostel, and had at that time, a distinct "look" of being in a hostel (haven't been in more recently).

I've searched through the forum, there haven't been any negative comments about Darwins that I can see.

I read the Ramsackle comment along time back, and took it to refer to Darwins, regardless I know and hear whats been said from certain bodies... I'm only setting it straight regardless to what people here have said, think or even care. Needed to be said.

Anyways this Thread states clearly 'Bald Barista under new management', this is incorrect, misinformation and misleading. People dont know the facts and took a shot in the dark and fired far wide of the target. If i was to have come on here 4 months back and told the board the truth well I'd prob have gotten in trouble.. haha A certain somebody might have rang my mammy.

Dont believe the hype boys and girls.

It was obvious to me anyway.

You seem to have picked up RE*AC*TOR incorrectly then.

Also, could you be any more vague?

I don't like the new Darwin's cafe. Two reasons -

    1. The staff make me uncomfortable. They either try to be wacky (in a really awkward, fake, borderline angry sort of way) or are so pretentious and think they are too good for the place. I think they are trying to be a bit "mad" like Buzz, but they are getting it wrong.
    2. I've been overcharged a few times. Unacceptable.

I haven't been up to the new Bald Barista yet (laziness, I live very close to it) but I speak to Buzz quite regularly and I think he's a genuinely decent guy who is trying to make something of his life, and who is doing good things for the cafe industry in Ireland. I hope his new cafe does well.

Agreed i get that impression too. Blad barista have the staff just right, very friendly and chatty. The staff at Darwin's are as you described above, a tad weird. Especially the guy who wears the same hat everyday.

You seem to be trying to correct statements that were never made. You're doing Darwins and yourself no favours with these paranoid rants. What do I care? I followed the quality up to Avalon House.

Just googling this guy now as he has a new cafe in the harcourt office park area. He seems like a good guy, the coffee is great. I really like the service there, Ireland has really lost the customer touch in a lot of places. It's generally someone behind teh counter who doesnt want to be there.

I'll give them all my custom. Although not hard when you think what the alternatives are! (Cafe Sol, Starbucks type places)
