    hi,

i have an iMac (aluminum) with leopard 10.5.5 and all the other latest software updates. we have 4 users on the imac and every user except mine can log out etc just fine. when i click log out the box comes up "are you sure" with the timer and when i click log out it just goes back to my desktop and everything works fine.

any ideas about what is happening??

    thanks
    adam

What happens if you dont try and log out of your user but just switch/log in to another user (leaving yourself logged in) and then at the login screen (should be green tick next to your user), can you log in again then?

yes i can do that no problem... its odd.. i've been reading online and most people say that when they cant log the system has stalled... its weird because mine works perfectly. its like i've cancelled the log out by saying "log out"!!

Have you tried creating a new user to see if its a new issue with settings? Are you the admin user?

Have a read of this... http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-11468.html

Hey, don't know if this is still an ongoing issue, but if it is, try this -

Open a terminal window (spotlight it or find it in the utilities folder)

then type this (word for word and case sensitive)

    for a restart -

    sudo shutdown -r NOW

    to power down totally -

    sudo shutdown -h NOW

then hit enter, type in your password, enter again and that should do it.

Another thing I've had in the past is an app that starts at login - for example skype - prevents shutdown. Usually though you get a notifier to tell you. I always delete start-up items after I've installed new software from System Preferences > Accounts > <USER> > Login Items.

    Just a thought . . . .
