    Hi,

I basically wanted 2 things, an external hard drive for my laptop because I just dont have enough space with my 120g hard drive so I was thinking of getting this.

Is this ok, a good deal? Any opinions?

Seems good to me if it doesnt stop working on me after a week.

The other thing I really need help with is connecting my laptop to my HD tv, ok I know I wont get full HD, but should I still get a high resolution picture on my tv which is 1080p via a cable of some sort? What this cables called I dont know, I know that I have to use a vga to scart adapter, vga being on my laptop and scart being on my tv. As you experts may have gathered by now I am clueless regarding this and was looking for your help. I found this and was wondering is this a nifty device which allows me to connect my latop to my TV?

If not, what do I need to do this and will the picture I get on my tv be good, cuz otherwise its not even worth my while. Want to watch movies on my tv that I have stored on my laptop.

I would really appreciate your help and view on this.

My laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 6400.

    Thanks.

It's sound. Good brand should be quality, and they have good warranties too.

Check that the tv has a vga port (D shaped, and generally blue in colour). If so, you're good to go, just get a vga cable.
The laptop probably won't manage 1080p, but it should be able for 720p.

Edit: The laptop's graphics card should be capable of 1080 (2048x1536 at 85 Hz in theory), but it's internal screen is not. 1080p MIGHT be possible, if you can disable the laptop's screen while it's plugged into the TV.

Thanks a mil for the feedback. I dont have a vga port, my tv is fairly new but I dont have that, just a scart port and hdmi ports? What connection could I get for a clear picture, 720p would be great even!

Also did you see that other link, thats not a laptop to hdtv media connection or something is it? Doubt it.

    Thanks for your response anyway.

Have you got an S-Video out on your laptop? Most TVs have an S-Video input on them too. Usually hidden under a panel on the front of on the side?

    Hiya, sound for the response.

Yeah I have an S-Video on my laptop alright, not sure about my tv, but it is full hd 1080p so it really should, shouldnt it??? Have to check when I get home from work very later.

Ok checked the spec of my tv and it does not have an S-VIDEO.

    This is what it has

One of the lads here is telling me that I can get an S-Video to scart cable? Is this correct? What would the picture be like? what type of picture resolution would S-Video to scart give you? A clear picture?

Could I get an S-Video to hdmi cable to get a better picture, does this exist?

    Anyone?

Im not getting much feedback on this so if there is anyone out there who knows about these things, your advice would be much appreciated.

Im doing my research and now I am getting that if you use a s-video to scart cable that your output is black and white? Is this correct? Surely not? Please see review below.

Whats the easiest way to connect my laptop to my tv for good colour picture and sound? My laptop has s-video and vga sockets and my tv has a scart and hdmi socket.

No, that's not correct, it should carry colour just fine. s-video/scart will not carry any sort of HD though.

You can get little converters for connecting a vga output to HDMI TV, but I don't know anything about them beyond what google tells me.

you can buy a vga to scart cable 65euro approx ,ebay,or order from maplin shop.set res at 720x576 then select tv output ,in graphics propertys, on the laptop,or read tv manual,to see what res it supports.THERES usually a function keyon the laptop with tv icon ,square beside,it to select ,activate vga to external tv/monitor.set refresh rate graphics advanced/ propertys 60mhz.
Google connnect laptop to HDTV,for more information.
right click laptop, desktop to change the laptop res to match tv resolution.
you could buy a vga to dvi adaptor, then plug in a dvi to hdmi cable,i dont know if that would work.
