I really don't care if their training methods are out-dated or whatever

There is a criticism if ever I read one. Off to the MMA forum with you sonny, you are driving "TMA people" ( are they like crab-people? ) away in droves with comments like that.

I never thought I would see the day where we had to create a seperate internet space to make other martial artists (and since apparently they are non combat martial artists I use that term loosely), feel safe! Laughable. If you cant fight your own corner on here, there is no hope.

Maybe we should have a politically correct martial arts sub forum, where you can only massage someone elses ego and talk lovingly about their particular style and training methods.

FD - What is a non combat martial artists??
One that has little/nothing to do with actual fighting I'd imagine. Aikido or ITF TKD would probably be two examples.

Dave I'm just jaded man, totally burnt out. After my conversion to MMA I became a shock troop for the revolution, but they used me, left me a hollow, burnt out shell and now all I have left is my hatred.

    rambo4-photo-01.jpg

So leave the people to their ego massage and stuff that won't work. Everyone knows if the offer is right that I'll be back for the seqeul anyway.

I still think that it is working as follows (or should work this way), that the seperate MMA forum is for fans to discuss various events / fighters. And that this forum is for all MAers to discuss all training etc. Similar to how the boxing forum is primarily discussing upcoming fights / fighters.

I know if I had any query / thoughts on training or technique whether it was tkd, mma or boxing related I'd post it here above the mma or boxing forums.

I'd hope debates on styles and training methods would remain here...

Sorry what I meant by "non-combat martial artist" was one that was not involved in combat sports, but also not TMA. Non-combat was completely the wrong word to use. Non-sporting would have been better.

I'm just saying that from experience on other forums and chatrooms when MMA has it's own room discussions of other styles and training will become more common. And that will happen here too after the split.

I did say that there should be criticism and that it is healthy. Ok my comment was a bit ignorant, but I wasn't trying to be critical. I was merely saying let TMA people talk about whatever they want, without MMA people swarming all over them.

Cheers Dave, thought you meant that alright.

"It's certainly less of a pain in the hole. I think it suits everyone, there's some threads on here that are surviving longer cos they're not buried among the 15 Brock vs. Randy threads."

I agree, have started checking in on the threads again.

    Cowzerp:
“Thats never been a problem on this forum, people saying mma is superior can be, but whats wrong with that if its got some sort of debate involved!”

    ??????????
I was agreeing with a previous post, I am not a delusional human being, and I think I am probably in a better position than you to explain how “I” felt about the forum, and a problem “I” had with it.
Perhaps, it wasn’t a problem for you, but clearly I’m not alone in this opinion, so please don’t instantly invalidate it with “That’s never been a problem”.
I like many posters here work and when not working will be training, giving classes etc. or trying to make up to my wife for spending so much time elsewhere, this doesn’t leave me a great deal of time to post. So now that the every few minutes frequency of MMA match highlights, discussion has been removed it leaves time for people to hit on topics of interest. I say highlights, it seemed at times every movement of every match and every comment by every fighter / organizer and every deal in progress was being discussed, I often posted say on sanshou one day and found it two pages down the next, I wouldn’t check two pages, so how can I expect others to do so? If the frequency of MMA to others was 10 to 1 say, within 20 posts you are off the front page, old news. One cage rage / UFC event, and you could forget about any other discussion.
    Regards,

    Niall

Niall, your talking muck, get off your high horse.

on a thread about training etc.. there was never talk about mma fights.
there was talk about mma been more effective than x y and z and because the likes of you had no answer for that your glad to see that moved.

well guess what? that talk is still welcome here, the other forum is for fights, this is for training and mma is martial arts and we can talk about training if we want,.
there was a page for mma talk, nothing to do with training, questions etc..

Can you not add something constructive instead of having a pop at one of the regular posters here?

Personally i think the Sd Boards has regained it's greatness.

Good. Now if you don't cop on a bit you won't be able to enjoy it.

    Guys,

from a Mod perspective both forums are doing well. They both have traffic, i haven't had to ban anyone on MMA yet and i haven't had to ban anyone on SDMA since then.

The simple fact of the matter is that people showed over a long time period that they were unable to co-exist on SDMA and talk styles in a polite manner. People were banned, people got upset etc etc.

Now we have an MMA forum that deals soley in MMA news, an SDMA forum the deals in the training aspects of anything that falls under such a broad scope forum title.

So, nothing has really changed, it's largely the same people posting here as have always posted here.

If conversation is lacking then start more threads?:)

And Paul is spot on, this is still the place for Style Vs Style debate and talk of MMA training and techniques.

    Cowzerp,

Why don’t you read my post rather than assume I have said what you want to talk about. I was not talking about threads being hijacked, but about the frequency of mma related threads, and how they swallowed the entire forum. If something is that popular it deserves its own forum, that’s my opinion. If there was a football forum, not separated, but drowned out by soccer so GAA lads had to trawl through pages to find something of interest, it would be logical to give soccer a forum, am I conversing with a vegetable or can you understand that logic?
“the likes of you” … and what do you know about me?

    Regards,

    Niall

Martin - Yes i do too much time on my hands, recent unexpected and highly illegal unemployment does that to u but not only will i get paid for the 5 months until it goes to the labour court but i also get to train my ass off for my fight on December 12th against Timmy....(anyone want tickets by the way..ll)

Dave Jones - Do you have any complaints about me having that 2nd motive lol....it worked didnt it, this is like the busiest thread since the split lol...you are all welcome...no need to thank me :D

Niall - Paul simply stated this thread is a style vs style forum so i agree with him - get off your high horse..you might fall so be careful lol

Don't like to see anyone out of work, hopefully you're getthing enough of a cut off those tickets that a pro competitor deserves, that 5euro off each ticket is just a racket, maybe during you're extra free time you should set up a minimum pay for play union, say C class 150euro min to compete or something. Someones making money out of these sports of ours and it ain't me.

I can pretty much guarantee it ain't the promoters either

Maybe since you're new here you should introduce yourself, your real name etc. instead of throwing around what you think people's private financial arrangements should or shouldn't be anonymously?

And I'm sure of Gary or anyone else has a difficulty with the amount of money they're getting then they could talk to the promoter or just not fight.

niall there was only 1 thread about mma discussion not loads as you'd make out, everyone knows that ,it was just the same as the mma forum, so your point is void, your just wrong. . :)

Not a sensitive issue, just a private matter between promoters and fighters which is, as they say, NOYB.

Yeah internetting is a real man's game alright, wish I was manly enough not to reveal my identity when asked :D

Dragan, you may have not banned anyone since the separation of the forum BUT people have been banned for quite honestly CRAP reasons!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 24,608 ✭✭✭✭arybvtcw0eolkf

How anyone can honestly say, hand on heart that Martial Arts & MMA (even UFC) discussion hasn't come on in leaps and bounds since Dragans appointment as Moderator is beyond me.

IMO both boards look like their a resounding success and can happily get along as neighbours.

Lets be honest, the old SD&MA board was dying a death.

I say weldone to Dragan for the breath of fresh air he's brought to both forums now.

Dave, i gotta be honest and say that normally i tell people to turn public arguments over bannings side ways and put them up their ass but since it's you, if you'd like to list a few CRAP bannings then go for it and i'll discuss with you.

    But only because it's you.

You're on it. I really suggest you take some time to figure out if you actually have anything to offer this forum before posting again mate.

If you can't offer anything decent then keep it to yourself.
