Hi mods , please move if in wrong place.

Can you split a broadband cable (after modem ) So the cable can feel two different places i.e. PC (sitting room ) and Laptop (in bedroom )

    Will it work ?,
Would it effect quality /speed ?
Can you use both at same time ?
Or do you need extra equipment to spilt signal ?

Sorry if this is a really stupid and simple Question , But I'm old ;)

    Thanks in advance

Would it not be easier to just use a router?

Not in the same way that you are able to split coax. You need to use equipment like a router, switch or hub and connect multiple cables to that.

The commonly recommended router is a Linksys WRT54G

Connect the network cable from the cabel modem into the WAN interface on the router, and the network cables from the various machines go into the LAN ports. Or connect wirelessly and avoid cables entirely.

    Thank you ,

You can go cheaper if need be, thought not immensely. You can also go much more expensive as well. But that model is extremely popular and well supported.

    See here for a selection.
