If you are using Tversity you can follow this guide.

Also, if you are using a firewall this could be limiting or denying access to your streaming service.

Probably need to use port forwarding, i needed to do this using linksys router.

Try Twonky Media, its light years ahead of Tversity.

There's a 30 day trial , after that its $40. But worth every cent.

Beh, freeloading FTW!! If i was giving them money, it'd be for a NAS hard drive with SAMBA support.

If you are NAT1 then your PS3 is connected directly to the net and bypassing your router either by DMZ or PPPoE. If your media device is on your network and your PS3 is not then they cannot see each other.

If you can get your PS3 to NAT2 by port forwarding and thereby connected via the router then you will be able to use media servers. Will also work by NAT3 but then PS3 online gaming is close to impossible.

Thanks! Would NAT2 be a happy medium for gaming and media, or should i rotate between NAT1 for gaming and NAT2/NAT3 for media?

If you are happy switching between NAT2/3 and NAT1 regularily then you have more patience than me. NAT1 by DMZ or PPPoE. How are you connecting ? If you can do this quickly then this is your best bet.

NAT1 makes gaming easy. NAT2 works for the PS3 but many games have differnet ports to open for each game and can be a pain. If you can get NAT2 always (port forwarding for online) then you can have both media server use and online gaming as you will be connected to your network and have full comms with online gaming.

First off, if you are streaming media from your PC to your PS3 from inside the network then you don't even have to think about NAT or your router.

If this is the case, ignore the misleading posts about NAT or router settings.

The problem lies with your PC and only your PC. Concentrate your efforts on that.

What operating system are you using [XP, Vista, Linux, other]?

If Vista and you are using Windows Media Player 11, you have to authorise your PS3 to get streams from it. You should see a small icon on the bottom left of your screen [near the clock]. Can't remember what the icon is but if you hold your mouse over each one, you should see the one you want.

It may also be an option in one of the menus in Windows Media Player.

If you are using any other program [TVersity etc] you don't have to do this. However, your windows firewall [NOT your router firewall] may be blocking it. Add an exception in for your media streaming software.

Let me know if you still have difficulties. Don't give up. It is a great feature once you get it configured. You won't know how you lived without it once it's working.

A 30 second google found this link. Talks through configuring WMP11 on Vista to stream Media to PS3.

Google is your friend. You just have to be willing :)
You also must be running a recent firmware for your PS3. 1.80 or upwards, I think. Recommend running the latest.

*Edit* Actually, the link is not just for WMP11 but for a LOT of media streaming software titles. You should be set.

    QUOTE]

If he has NAT1 then he is not on his network at all and has a direct connection to the net and cannot do media server. I am unsure about that when you DMZ your PS3.

As I said NAT2 or 3 will be on his network and will he can then do the media server. The reason NAT1 or 2 is so important is for online gaming. NAT3 is fine if you want to use the media server but forget about online gaming.
