Cool.. Probably better for c&c if you inserted the images instead of links..

Edit: when you go to sizes on pix, I think it's the second code. :)

Click on the photo on Pix. There will be two text boxes of code under the picture. Copy all of the text in the second box, and just paste it straight to here.

I love Flamingo.. maybe some sharpening/contrast?
The Hollywood Sign image is a little underexposed.. Do you use photoshop/lightroom/picasa? I'd try to bring out the white in the sign & boost/burn the colours/vibrancy..
    Fast & Furious - Wohoo! :p Nice.
Maybe straighten the Shamu shot so that the background bridge isn't slanting.
I love the bokeh type effect behind the Slate.. Cute though? lol! :D

    Just suggestions.. :)

Ah yes photoshop..... I'm trying to get into it. i'm getting a new laptop next week and adobe photoshop comes with it so I'm going to start experimenting more with it then.
(is adobe photoshop good?? by the way??)
I see what you mean with the hollywood sign - I'll try to brighten it when i get home.
Thanks for the comments I'll start messing about with photo shop to enhance the rest too later:)

    Hi Jen,

Are you shooting manual? Just curious.

Just selected a few to go through. Hope it helps.

Flamingo - nice angle/vantage point. nice subject. Not so nice background (i know - not much you can do when the darn bird is just standing there!). But the biggest problem you have here is the focus - it off on the head area. You must have had lots of light yet shutter speed on the exif shows 1/90 second. Your aperture shows being at f22. I think the out of focus may be just camera shake - again surprising as the K10D has excellent shake reduction if turned on.

Not sure what mode you were shooting but you hardly would have needed f22 on this subject? At a guess f9 - f11 (or less maybe) making more light available on your subject / faster shutter speeds.

In terms of keeping things in focus; I recently found it was an interesting (if anarok-y maybe) to study Depth of Field and the effect of focal length, aperture, and distance to subject. Print off a few charts at different focal lengths from over here and compare and study results. It will give you an understanding of the 'in focus bit' of
depth of field. If close in distance to the subject, then you can be dealing with really shallow depth of field which can also give that out of focus eh, effect ;)

There is a 'rule' (yeah yeah...., everyone will tell you to break it but it is a good place to start) that your shutter should be at least twice the value of your focal length. In this case your focal length reports to be 80mm which means in terms of the rule you would need to have a shutter speed of 1/160 to avoid blur/out of focus/camera shake. This should be a minimum - if you have lots of light and if you can push the shutter speed up to 10 times the focal length (it has been reported) - you'll get pin sharp images (at least from a shake point of view). Also remember sometimes you may want that softness/blur and then you'll maybe go for slower shutter speeds.

Hollywood Sign - Quite a bit underexposed i.e. get more light in there - 2 ways really; Open the aperture more or slow the shutter (i know the opposite of what i've said above). You've taken it at 1/500 sec so you have some scope to slow it down without worrying too much about shake. I had a play and its probably the equivalent of 1 full stop of light needed which brings that grey 'hollywood' into being a bright white one.

Seaworld - I like this one. A great action shot, nicely exposed and good freezing of the action with 1/500 sec shutter speed. The above rule is working well here for you i.e. more than twice the focal length (of 93mm) = 1/186 second but you've given it 1/500 so although it was a moving target, you managed to freeze it.

Some other nice ones on your pix.ie stream - them sea world ones are great.

Back to my original question above - if shooting manual, pay attention to the in camera meter displays which will guide you as to the under exposure and shake issues.

    Anyhow, hope that helps.

    Cheers.

Have you thought of writing a photography book, AnCatDubh? I'd buy it! ;)
(Meaning, you always give excellent c&c).

Thanks Dee - Now if only I could remember half of that myself when i go to take an image ;)

Jen - Had a doh! moment on the way to work. The flamingo's out of focus head is probably caused by him/her moving his/her head (i know... a slightly less technical explanation. doh!). Well shutter speed still would have helped in this situation.

    :)

    Thanks Tommy!

I agree with Yogibear write a book (and I get one of the first copies!lol:) )
Are you shooting manual? Just curious.
I did a bit of both . Most of the seaworld ones would have been manual.
I tried manual alot messing with the aperture and shutter speeds.

    Thanks for this!

I still have to play about with photo shop with a few pics. (esp the hollywood one). Didn't get a chance last night had to go to the vet. So will get around to it tonight.
Do they have photoshop for dummies!! lol :D

Thanks for the c&c always appreciated!

It's easier to be objective about someone else's work though I think.. Hindsight's a great thing too.. and often it's not possible to go back and get the exact same shot. :)
