The Problem is that he tries to setup a wireless network for it tells him this laptop does not have a network adapter installed .... Is This a hardware or driver related-software probelm??

it could be software related. if its running windows (xp anyway) check in the device manager for anything with a yellow question mark beside it. if there is something there then it means that the component hasnt been installed. [ Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc -> OK ] or [ 1. Right-click My Computer then select Properties 2. Select the Hardware tab 3. Click the Device Manager button]

try finding drivers for the adapter and then install them. if you got a cd with the laptop they could be on that or try searching the net on a different computer. im not really sure what to do so i think you should wait for someone else to come along with advice :)

When searching it should give you the option to select a folder. Tell it to search c:\toshiba\drivers (at least I think that's what it is, it might be just c:\toshiba) leave it for a while (it could take a few minutes) and it should find the driver and install it.

If your mate only got the laptop today,I would suggest just doing a complete recovery...no point in beating around the bush. :D

if it doesnt work after that, you got a hardware issue.

Its probably a driver not installed. The driver may not be o present on the computer at all. Some Toshibas are shipped like this.

Connect, if you can, to the net via ethernet. Does the message ask to search for a driver? If it does, then let it search the net for the driver. If not, check in device manager - network adaptors. It will a "unknown device" (or something like that) and re-install driver. Let it search the net.

I had to sort out a brand new Toshiba with the same problem tonight. It found the driver in a couple of minutes on the net.

Ok my brother got it sorted out by giving Pc world tech support a call, probably should have done so in the first place without hassling all of you:rolleyes:
It was as you all expected a problem with the drivers.
    Thanks to all who contributed.
