Lightroom vs. Photoshop

I do a lot of black and white, and up until recently have been using Gimp, which I now find pretty awful by comparison. My trial license is almost up on lightroom and I am thinking of buying. I am not too concerned with the management element as I tend to shoot few, and pick my favourite RAW to concentrate on for editing.

I mostly use lightroom's wb correction, tone curve, sharpening tools and gradient - are these available in photoshop elements? I am hoping it has the same visual tone curve option?

Elements doesn't do curves natively but there are plugins that give some curves functionality. I'd say Lightroom > Elements for your needs.
