    Hi Folks,

I have a Samsung LE40A656 which is a great tv but the sounds is appalling. I have an Altec Lanzing 5.1 speaker setup from my pc that I was hoping would be able to connect to the TV but I am not sure it would.

Does anybody have any experience of this? There seems to be alot of connections for audio on the back of this tv but I tried a few and all I got was a hissing noise out of one or two of the speakers!

Is this possible or will I need to get a specialised surround sound system?

    Thanks in advance

Im in the same situation don't think it possible. I think you need like an amp or receiver or something. I would say it will be cheaper and easier just to buy a new surround sound system and leave them attached to your pc

but could speakers like that not just plug into the headphone socket on the tv? I was thinking of getting a Creative Inspire T6100, 5.1 Speaker system for my Panasonic Viera, does anyone know if they'd work?

Tried that doesnt work you only get sound from the front two speakers, and the odd burst from the rear ones its not proper srround at all it sucks and the volume never seems to stay at the same level either

    PY,

In the first instance I wonder if your TV audio settings have not just been reset in some bad way. No TV should be as bad as you describe.

Just googled ur TV. There is a headphone jack on the side panel which should be compatible with your 5.1 assuming it uses a male 5mm jack. The audio results might not be great however. This way you might at least avoid new purchases. Worth a trial.

What is the model of your Altec Lansing ?

PM me if you want to make phone contact to discuss.

Sorry for delay in getting back to you, its an old atlec lanzing that I got with a Dell pc a few years ago! I can't remember the model number at the moment, I think it was 550 or something!

I tried that headphone socket at the side but none of the connectors fit! I have a red, black and green plug/connectors!
