just got back from the RDS,went to see "toys 4 big boys" 2008.i felt i had to air my views on this event as it was my first time going.first of all i didnt really want to go but my son wanted to so i brought him..i knew my wallet was going to play a major part of the day and it was first visited even before i got in to the event by parking fees of 6 euros.i paid 18 euros for myself and 14 for my son.my first impressions were that i am in an indoor market and as i ventured around my impression was correct.i assumed i was going to see stuff out of the ordinary but i was greeted with tile cutters, popcorn makers, jewellry, perfume, car speakers, and other such rubbish that you can see at any sunday market.every stall i went to was selling something and always way over the odds.after a while i got a little hungry so i went outside to get chips...4.50 euros for a tiny carton of them...i remained hungry.we found a stall called "goody bags" so i figured "at last, something for nothing".in the bag was a copy of the irish examiner and a sample size hair wax and deoderant, gee whiz.my grumpy old man hysteria was kicking in.i brought my camera along to get some great pics to show my work-mates,i never took it out of my pocket once.a computer stand had stuff on view and at the counter they had lots of their own magazines for you to take,so i took one,,i was abruptly summoned by the guy behind the counter saying "hey mate,2 euro's" i threw it back at him.is it just me ,or is the main purpose of these events not to entertain you after you have paid a fairly hefty fee to get in,but to continue removing all the money from your wallet until you once again feel completely screwed by everything that happens in ireland today,,,let me know!!!

Went last year for free. It sucked. Voted with my wallet by vowing to never go again.
Problem solved. In retrospect, I can't believe I actually went to that crapfest:(

    Charming.

I never understood why people have to pay into a horribly packed market. These show things are a load of bollox.

I think there were threads last year here about how lame T4BB is.... Has it really been a year!

ffs op I dunno whether the ideal homes exhibition would have been more suited to you. Full of stuck up poxy freeloading bastards there for their free toliet rolls etc.

I don't know whether you are aware of this but exhibitions are there for people to sell and promote things at. You could have got a free Jameson, but you were driving, loads of wine, beer, other bits and bobs including bets if you so wished to.

Also I think you might need to visit specsavers because there was indeed things of interest, to most anyway. Did the Ferarri evade you? Other top cars on display there too. Motorbikes, not to mention the mad stunts they were doing in that ball outside. The BMX stunts, strong man show, oh and there was a complete cheesey DJ there playing the most commercial music I have heard in yonks. Fs he was like Ridge Racer Revolution with added vocals but did scratch, on a set of Pioneers .... Also some millitary vehicle stuff... Plenty of gadgets that's for sure.

Has anyone here any idea how much a stand in such an exhibition costs?

My only gripe was mad max on steroids, some junkie bastard there earlier. Loner arse head. But I won't get into that now.

I've gone a couple of times and yes there are the odd ferrari and kit car:rolleyes: and a lone helicopter outside, but for the most part it's not good value for money. The first few years it actually wasn't too bad and had some interesting things, but it's gone downhill rapido. The cost of the stuff on many of the stands beggars belief, even to an Irish person well used to being wallet raped.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Only reason I went is cause I obtained free "vip" passes for Thursday evening. If I had paid, I would have been very pissed off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,636 ✭✭✭dotsman

Yup went to this knackfest last year. Had a complimentary pass, so thankfully didn't have to pay (which, out of principle, I would have been pissed off about afterwards).

The place is just filled with young scummers and little girls in cheap fake tan and barely no clothes. Absolutely nothing of any interest there for an adult male (I'm 27).

The only good thing I saw was a very hot model (in very revealing clothes:D) representing some GPS firm. I did a lap of hte place in half an hour and left wiching I could have that half an hour back.

    I went yesterday....

    Tanks - Check
    Guns - Check
Hot girls in hot-pants - Check
    Superbikes - Check
Stuff I cant afford and don't need that I want - Check

Really enjoyed it. What did you all expect it was going to be like!

Went the first year because the boss got us ticket's, they had an old challenger tank, and that was it. Everything else was a load of me hole

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 777 ✭✭✭dRNk SAnTA

Yeh I was there last year, luckily I was given tickets. Even with out paying, I still felt ripped off. The thing is a complete waste of time. There was a stand for Scientology, wtf...?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

A workmate was at a Leinster match....eh, RDS do they sometimes play in? (have zero interest in rugby myself) last year. Apparently the D4s in attendance were rather shocked at the Max Power "reading" UFC fight attending scobes invading for one of these events next door en masse.

I was told that the CarBuyerGuide stand cost 60K, i can only imagine how much the blackjack stand had to pay.

I went a few years ago and thought it was crap, i got free tickets to go on Thursday and it hadn't changed a bit.

I agree it was sh*t. Was there yesterday but I got in free.

Was suprised to see the scientologists there giving their free "stress tests" and a good number of gullible fools taking it. It pissed me off actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I went there a few years ago probably 06. Was like a knacker auction. I did end up finding airsoft and now have a pride inspiring collection but the show was disapointing. I've been to shows in the UK and the US (I've had to work at them and there all kind of shows) and what we put on here is lame in comparison. These people turn up just expecting people to be happy they showed up. Some make the effort and genuinely what the business.

If I went to a show called Toys 4 Big Boys I'd expect them to be selling black rubber fists and the like.....

Went to similar in the RDS this year. It was supposed to be in the RDS according to the adverts, "a family day out for children".
What was inside was nothing, absolutely NOTHING but stands selling the usual junk on tables you'd find in a Saturday market.
Brought my kids up and wife (30 miles travelling) - we all had to pay in thinking "we're or at least the kids, were going to have fun".

Nope, no fun, no nothing, we left 30 minutes later and took the kids into the city centre again and made it up to them there.
    We all were disgusted.

I'm never attending anything in the RDS again. Its a sham.

I got comp tickets a few years ago and Ive never gone back since, totally uninteresting and I'm fairly sure I'd fall into their target market. Waste of money.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 459 ✭✭Ger the man

A mate of mine was at this today and stayed for about 20 mins because of reasons already mentioned. On his way out he shouted to lots of people about to pay in that it was a waste of money and not to bother, one guy with 4 kids couldnt thank him enough (family day out? - yeah right!).

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

If your rich enough to be able to buy all the big toys, you can bet your expensive backside that the sakes reps will be calling to your door, not you to their's!

The RDS shows have increasingly just become one sham after another.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Jay D

it's not the worst from an exhibitor's point of view in fairness. Like it is for selling, not going to say otherwise but there are rich people interested in splashing out and they are the ones that are generally happy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,009 ✭✭✭✭Run_to_da_hills

Most of the cr*p in there can be bought on line at a fraction of the price. We should be paid to come to this thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭RandomAccess

Anyone try the scientology stress test...
I was at TFBB last year and was aching to try it out for a laff.

But I thought someone I know might see me and think I was actually falling for that cult crap..

It's all about sales. Maybe at this stage their getting sales but if the people that have gone to this show are anything like me they won't be going back. Bad for sales.

Like I've said before I've been to shows everywhere, and as I've said the Irish just don't put the effort in. We can afford to put the effort in but we just don't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Went on Thursday using a free "VIP" ticket with a group from work. God only knows what the VIP was for.

The general consensus between us all is that it was not worth paying into, it is as stated earlier a glorified sunday market. Great place if you want to buy a remote control helicopter (there were at least 10 stands selling crap like that) which I didn't.

    Spend your cash elsewhere.

I would agree with you there in regards they could put the effort in. Irish co's don't do it.

They are always of the opinion we are robots or something that is why I will never got o an Irish festival again (GG, etc). Complete robbery. I was at the Oktoberfest though, that was ok :D

Still at times like this this exhibition helped.

Most of the posters on this thread seem to have got in with free concession tickets, maybe the big boys name is Vincent. :D

Its a wonder how the place is making any money :pac::pac::pac:
