Hey lads, i have a grundig sky box spare at home and i was trying to set it up for my neighbour an elderly man, so he could have the freeview channels, but all i'm getting is "no satellite signal" i'm not sure what the problem is, he has one of the old sky dishes the really big ones with the cable coming in to the house so i plugged this into the sky box, and wired the box to the tv, turn it on and i got the picture straight away, but all it said was no satellite signal,

I'm guessin he eithers needs and new smaller dish, or maybe does he need a card? even thou its only free view channels,

    Someone help please?

when was the dish last known to be working?

on the box, go to services, setup, signal test and see is there any signal at all.

sounds like the dish is misaligned or the lnb/cabling is damaged.

the box was working up until a week ago, i upgraded to hd, and as far as i know his dish and cabling were working with a very old sat receiver box a little while ago, when i had sky box set up in his house it was accesing tv guide and box office and services etc, but it just keeps saying no sat signal, i dunno i'm guessin it might need a card or as i said a new dish?

if you go into services menu then system setup then signal test .

this will tell you if there is a signal going to the box.

Chances are the dish is alligned to 19.2deg East and will need to be realligned to 28deg east.

It might be just as easy to get a new dish installed or if your house is physically attached to his house you could probably connect his cable into one of the spare outputs on your lnb(bit on front of dish)

nah there not physical attached its accross the road, does the allignment to 28 degrees have to be perfect?

Yes, It has to be perfectly alligned or else it won't work

I'd be tempted to get a price for a new dish for him, it wouldn't be that much i reckon - less that 100 euros anyways, i'd reckon

check out ebay, you can get a signal tester for a few quid, you don't need a card for freesat just the box and dish. I don't know if you need a new lnb for digital satelite as opposed to analogue but again you can get them for a couple of pound on eay. make sure your on a channel that you know is free ie. BBC news. RTE, TV3, TG4 is not available on freesat. all the BBC's, ITV's, C4's are available
