Located in Dublin, im in the midst of completing my Leaving Certificate. With a background in radio and team leading im setting my sights on managing an up and coming, or newly formed band.

I've got good contacts, good managerial skills, and a good vision of where i'd like to take my bands.

The type of music im into is along the lines of Fallout Boy, Matchbox 20, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Young Love, Elefant, Editors, Director, Eric Clapton and The Wombats to name but a few.

PM if interested or wish to know more

    lollers :D

would a good manager with contacts and managerial skills not seek out a band through much more normal channels instead of resorting to posting on boards?

    best of luck though :D

Without meaning to sound in any way smart or patronising - how do you have so much experience when you have not even sat your leaving certificate.

With all due respect, I would be looking for someone a lot older than you to manage my band.

As above really. Why not get yourself into gigs and meet the bands you want to manage.

Perhaps he was just looking to manage a band of fellow 16/17 year olds. There's probably plenty of young bands lurking here.

sorry I'm off topic here but...my girlfriend was contacted by one of these managers guys off the net and after seeing her pics wanted to come by to her house to hear her sing. Can I ask you if this is normal? Dodgy? (read your article by the way, very helpful).

Lay off the dude, he's offered his services- you're either interested or not. U2's manager; the McGuinness chap, he started out this way as a young lad so why not this guy. F**k the begrudgers DanOB and go for it, I'd actually prefer an ambitious young manager to some tired old cynical hack.

eh not really. most i've ever chatted to either saw a client at a gig (70%) and the rest found theirs on the net and then went to a rehearsal / gig.

have never heard of that myself. personally if a potential manager said he likes the pics and i'd like to call to your house to hear you sing (which he should have already heard) i'd be a bit worried.

but thats just me being sceptical

no-ones begrudging DanO anything. Just stating a very , very obvious point. As for the cynical hack comment if I had a euro for everytime someone has whipped out that comment :D:D:D:D

Whatever about Mc Guinness (it's a very mute point though I do get what your saying as I was there once :):) ) fact of the matter is the OP has shown his lack of so called claimed "acumen" as well as naivity by posting on an internet forum asking for bands looking for management. From his post it doesn't seem as he's looking for a young band it seems he looking for a serious band (which is to be commended)

I've seen so many posts similiar to the OPs over the years and ultimately when you start to probe these "contacts" they turn out to be mates who's gonna set up a gig OR set up a label or some pay to play setup. Not that I'm saying the OP will be the same I'm just giving my past experiences of such threads / posts.

I would also very , very much doubt as his age he's gone through the logistical nightmare of organising a tour and the promo / financing work surrounding it as well as dealing with the million and one aspects surrounding gigs etc. But if he has then fair balls to him (howver, if he had then I'm sure he wouldn't be posting as above)

Anyways, we all gotta start somewhere so best of luck he'll need it (just like everyone else :) )

It's a well known fact that when Paul McGuinness posts on Boards his name is DanOB .... a lad told me that ...

Best of look Paul, I mean Dan. They're only cynical around here. We all had to start somewhere, go for it!
