    Folks

I need you help please (i could have posted in Bargain Alerts request but a similar post there with no replies so i thought i would go here )

My 8 year old son has asked Santa to bring him a PS3 for Christmas.

Where is my best place to get one value for money wise and what is the best spec of one for an 8 year old ?

Any tips much appreciated, looking to get it sorted within the next week or so

    Thank you

Usually Symths and xtravision do a few good console bundles to the run up to Christmas, id go there.

The ps3 is one of the few things you'll struggle to find cheaper online. The standard price for the ps3 is 400e. Basically, you'll just have to shop around to see who gives you the best bundle.Nearly all places will have two games for 20e extra or something like that

HMV always seem to have good deals on the ps3.
I got mine last year and had some trouble with it*about two months after I got it*,they just replaced it straight away.

Thanks folks for the info, let the hunt begin for me in the shops for one, will be cross the border next week , might compare prices with down here.

Though I'm not sure if they are still doing it Xtra Vision had a deal where you get an 80GB PS3 and any game of your choice for 410 Euro. Not sure about the extra accessories but that was one deal being offered

My advice is to just shop around something I wish I did when I bought mine:(

Going to buy one myself - is there a point in getting a 160GB? Is the price difference justified?

Incidentally, can I get my HMV student discount on a PS3? Would be a good 10% off!

Zavvi in Cork - 80 GB PS3 for 430 with any new game, choice of bluray movie and an accesories pack. Saw that the other day and thought it was a good deal.

Thats an excellent deal for sure. I'd imagine the extra accessories are third party stuff though. To be fair, argos are gettin better at these bundles.Their console bundles were absolute ****e up to not too long ago

If this deal is 300£ up north, it'd be under 370e at todays rates. Not bad going at all...

Eh, to rephrase my question: Do I need all that space?

do you intend on owning many games? lots of games have 5-6gb installs nowadays

do you intend on downloading many games or demos from psn? they can be quite hefty too, average would be in or around 1gb id say

do you intend on storing mp3s and video files on the ps3 to watch in upscaled glory? coz thatll eat space too

Tesco just finished a 25% sale on all consoles/games... maybe wait a couple of weeks to see if they run something like that again!

If you get the deal in Argos you can take out an extra 2 years insurance on it too.

Smyths had little big planet and fifa 09 with the 80gb console for 399. Heard they now are doing little big planet and a list of games. I'll be over there probably later tonight so I'll get the full deal.

I got one in HMV this week for €399 including Motorstorm 2 and Dead Space which are both new releases... I think the offer is only for this week though or may be ending today (got it on Tuesday).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I saw a poster outside GAME. PS3 and Pes and LBP for 400 I think.

    Not bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,120 ✭✭✭andrew1977

Seen an 80gig Ps3 with Little Big Planet and Fifa 09 for around the 410 euro mark in Smyths, think i will go with this .Also includes couple of game vouchers and loyalty cards
The same offer was 299 sterling up North yesterday

Am i likely to get a better offer than the above in the run up to Xmas ?

Oh yeah i also need to source an extra controller, whats the best priced site online/bricks and mortar to buy this ?

    Thanks !
