Ok so again i find myself looking at this.

    Has anyone done this?

    Can you recommend a place?

Is there any massive reason not to do this?

I would only recommend big name companies who can offer secure purchase and delivery. you may already know this.
I dont know much about buying jewellery online but I have been fecked about buying expensive photography equipment online.
Hope this has been of some sort of help

    Hi psittacosis,

we've just bought my engagement ring online from the States. We bought from diamonds-usa.com. I designed the ring online during the summer and my boyfriend recently purchased it. It was only dispatched yesterday and it may be some time before I see it :D. The ring was good value and looks stunning - I just cant wait to see it now. The company were pretty good to deal with too, answered all our queries quickly.

I understand you may be nervous to do this as we were. Will let you know if all goes well regarding delivery, customs etc.

    Best of luck!

    Hey,

I've just bought an amazing ring online in Australia, jogiadiamonds. he ships to Ireland too!

They're a great bunch of guys... after weeks of deciding on rings or jewelers Jogesh (Jogia) said they could custom make the ring for me.

The diamonds all come from Antwerp so they're the same source> Australia or the US have cheap VAT rates so they're even cheaper again.

Long story short I got near flawless diamonds set in platinum for 3.5k euro, the same ring valued here @ just over 10k euro.

The winning factor for me was I was travelling to Oz (my fiance is Australian) and popped the question down under. I got 10% gst redcution when leaving the country coupled with their plummeting dollar exchange rate hence the 3.5k cost :)

remember the 4 c's and GIA certification, if they're certified they're all the same regardles sif you buy in an expensive jewelers or not.

good luck i hope she says yes!

Hiya, we got my engagement ring last year from bluenilediamonds and I'm thrilled with it. We paid just over 5.5k for it (incl vat) - it's 1.25 carat with .25 carats in baguettes, platinum, excellent cut, D colour - something similar we were quoted almost 12k for here! I love it and it's really bright and has drawn a lot of comments. It actually looks bigger than 1.25. They are a very reputable company, are listed with Forbes (if that means anything) and we got certificates with it from GIA and ASDL. Can recommend - good luck!

My ring arrived last week from diamonds usa. It came about 3 days after it was despatched. We had it valued today and its worth 3.5 times of what was paid for it. We are delighted and glad we did take the risk. But in saying that I did a hell of a LOT of research before we took the plunge. But the whole value aside ( I dont really care about that) I love the ring, its stunning and I cant wait until I get it properly :D

We recently bought my engagement ring online at Dejoria.co.uk. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Like everyth else here, we are being ripped off, so you are better off to get the jewellery online. (They can keep costs down due to no rent on premises etc). At Dejoria (in England), they have certs on every diamond they have, so you're guaranteed that you are getting what you pay for. Check out the sites to be sure that they have all the security and are well-known. My friend also bought through this site and she also found them brilliant. I contacted a few other sites but they were very casual emails from them, some with terrible English, so you wouldn't want to part with a few grand to business like those! I just googled the kind of ring I wanted, sent them a photo of it and explained what quality I wanted, budget etc. They also can do up whatever rings they have on the site. Found it very easy to use and to find the right 4Cs. If you want to surprise the girl, they send it in a shoe box in brown paper so no-one would ever know. Altho my boyf couldn't hide it from me as I knew it was on the way!!! General advise tho - do lots of research, and be sure you know enough about the company and the ring, before you part with your money. I found lots of jewellers here had far lower quality diamonds for twice the money we paid - they like to think that people know nothing about diamonds!!!
