Simple question: for those of you who play the pokah for a living what do you think a good amount to be makin on average every week? What level cash games do you think one should play at to obtain a good standard of living?
Im pretty young and am unemployed so play pokah for money!? Over the last few weeks Ive been winning and losing and my bankroll is always around the 12k-15k mark. Today was a very bad day but forget about that. What stakes are the best to be palying etc etc etc?
    BAM BAMM:cool::P:mad::eek::):):rolleyes:

    Is that you're life roll?

15k calculates to about $20k which would mean you would just about berolled for 1000nl but I would recommend 400nl if you do try this.
Hope you have/are planning to get HM.
I wouldnt do it if I was in a situation like you are but Gl with it anyway

playing 5/10 for a living with 20k would be absolute madness....For a young person with no commitments you could make a solid living playing 1/2 assuming you can win at 4-5ptbb and have a good RB deal. With your roll you could be playing 1/2 and 2/4 but be prepared to move to exclusively 1/2 if you drop below 10k.

Def not rolled for 1000nl....even if u were one of the better players at this limit.
I would suggest 200nl. Move up if u are successful.

Didnt mean to add that quote in my previous post. Please ignore.

if you're living at home and have rent, food, bills paid for you could have it great. It's making pocket money though, not a living

Im lived of 100nl, paying all myself, rent food etc... But its will be by no means a luxuary unless you beat it v easy and put in hands.

    Seriously?

    Not DBC?

OK then. Play at the highest level that you consistently beat and are properly rolled for.

If you're not sure what level this is, move down a level.

Play enough to live off rakeback/bonuses and add your winnings to your bankroll.

If you need to use winnings to live off, move down a level and play twice as much.

no you wouldnt, not even close to being close.

it all depends on your situation. if your living at home with no bills then im sure you could get by with a 15k tank playing 200nl. if your renting by yourself and looking to live a decent live you would probly want a min 100k tank with a potential to earn 50k per anum. minimum

Ya Im DBC blah blah blah. Not sure why I posted this article I guess all the jibbering is just one casic question: level you need to be beating to make a decent living ie circa 600euro a week. Serious nite very drunk at the live tables kicked out of casino!?

Forget playing cash, play MTTs and get one score for over $2k a week, minus $1k trying and bingo, you're up $1k and your brain is fried!

Why do sngs never come into the equation in these conversations?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭FeetMagic

I find them very boring and wouldnt have the patience to successfully multi table them

50$ HU SNG can be really good and allows you to isolate the fish....you play 30 of these/day and win 17 of them (with a good RB deal) and you are in good shape ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 325 ✭✭Dirk_Diggler

I'm quite enjoying $30 normal 10 seater sngs at the moment to be honest.

Might be less enjoyable if you were playing 20 at a time, and having to make a living from them, rent dependant etc.
They are great for social poker, not so much for professional. all imo of course.

would have to strongly disagree with this. why do u say this? like is it because u personally dont enjoy sngs or u dont think there as profitable as cash games? must be said though there are very very few players in ireland playing sngs seriously. imo there a great way to make a living. ok they can get repetitve obv but so does cash games or mtts.

At what level of sngs could you make a living so as a matter of interest?

Im considering starting to play them done a small sample this week and my head was wrecked!

I wasnt to do some study on 2+2 sng forum before i start again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 335 ✭✭BIGMICKG

well it depends what ud class as making a living i suppose. me personally i reckon id be able to make $50k+ a year playing $20 sngs. sngs are all about volume. just playing as many as u possibly can. no use sitting there playing 1 or 2 tables at a time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭TripleAce

I will never get you how you guys can multitable so easily....when I have 4 tables open at once on iPoker I already struggle!!! :(

Really depends on screen size. Couldnt do it on a v.small screen
I usually use my 32inch lcd when im multitabling
You get a good view of 6-tables

Thanks....I use a laptop to play (with no separate monitor), so with 4 tables I feel the whole screen if I mini-table and really struggle to see properly and therefore don't even enjoy the game. I usually play 3 tables (one HU SNG and 2 MTT in the background) at full screen.

As i say just personal opinion not a definitvie answer, but the variance in SNGs would drive you nuts, I doubt many people understand just how bad it can get. Playing optimally 30+BI downswings are very possible. That could break even the most die-hard fan of them

how many buy in downswings could an mtt pro expect? a hell of a lot more than 30. + to become a full time poker player variance is 1 of the 1st things ull have to learn to deal with

I occasionally play stts when I know I am not in the best shape or focus to multitable cash as they are very robotic and there is no tough decisions required. There is no doubt they can be very profitable if u treat them as a job and just play as many tables as possible and make no mistakes. As for not enjoying playing them who cares if u are making money from them. I also believe there is a lot more fish playing stts than playing cash.
Wow BigMickG.....u really put the hours in....22k stts on stars....wp...have u shipped the Porsche yet....

I was the same up until recently enough.

Could barely survive having two tables running - I later found out they were turbos so no wonder. Now, however, I find I can handle eight mini screens on ipoker.

Getting a new monitor helped immensely though, I wouldnt have been able to do it on my old one, using the Dell 2208 now and it fits four screens perfectly, no overlap.

what connection do you need on the lcd to join to a pc. is the picture workable for hours on a cheapish 32inch or is it very blurry?
