    Hey all,

I am sitting the Gamsat in March and hoping to get into RCSI next year. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best books to get for biology, chemistry and Physics. I already have gone through organic chem and physics for dummies but don't know what else to learn?

Also whats the best way to study for Section I of the paper, I have just done pharmacy and think this area will probably be my weakest, the questions seem so random!?

Ant help appreciated, I'm totally lost!:(

    Hi Gamsatgirl

I'm an RCSI GEP student at the moment and did the GAMSAT 2 years ago. I originally did Medicinal Chemistry so have a similar background to yourself. I applied at the last minute as I had planned on waiting another year to start but decided to do the test anyway and see how I would get on with no preparation (just 1 practice test the day before). Long story short... unexpectedly did well and am now in 2nd year GEP medicine !! Anyway... my advice is to try to be as relaxed as possible. I found the practice tests waaaaaay harder than the real thing so don't let those scare you.

Having just done pharmacy you have a great grounding for the 3rd section of the exam. Organic chemistry comes up a lot so it's useful to have a good sound knowledge so you don't have to spend too much time on these sections. Any basic organic chemistry book will be fine - they expect you to have a 1st year college level only!! Most of the other questions you will be able to work out using logic and common sense, even if you have never heard of the concept before. The main issue here is timing. If you think this will be a problem for you do lots of timed practice questions so that you're used to working under pressure.

Section I is difficult to prepare for - questions are anything and everything. Best advice I can give is do some sample tests again.
Section II is essay writing - do some practice essays on any topic to get yourself used to proper essay structure.

    Best of luck!!!

    HTH
