Sky Box Staying On Standby - Help!!

My Sky digibox (normal not +) has decided it does not want to switch on. When I press the power button it stays on standby (red light).

Tried unplugging it a few times & removing and reinserting the viewing card but no joy.

If the box is foooked can you use another box and just plug in your viewing card? Is the box 'tied' to the viewing card in any way?

Would anybody here have a standard Sky digibox they are not using any more sitting in their garage maybe that they would be prepared to let me have for, say, a nice bottle of Whiskey? :D

    Thanks.

What make standard box do you have?? Only thing you can try is force a software update on it. Remove the power and viewing card. Leave out for two minutes, and then locate the backup button could be on the top or front of the box.

Keep the backup button pressed and return the power lead and after a few seconds its front lights will lite up and force a software download. Hopefully it will sort you prob.

In answer to your second question, the card is paired to the box, but putting the card into a different box will show all the channels expect the sports and movie channels, you would need to contact Sky to tell them you changed the box and they will re-pair it to the new box...

    Tks for the reply Steveon.

It's an old Pace box (black front with silver piece either side) and I have my Sky installed since 2000.

Don't see a backup button anywhere on the box at all!

Ring them, they will say it will cost 100 euro for an engineer to call out, act shocked, etc. Say you want to cancel, magically the charge is waved and you will get a brand new box.

I have a spare sky box you can have if you want it. It is an old Grundig model but still works fine. PM me if you are interested.
