I am nearly always influenced by other peoples opinion. If i read a book watch a movie or listen to a song a lot of the time i dont know if i like them. A lot of my book/music/film collection is influenced by others. It take usually takes me a while to figure out what i like. Why is this is and what can i do?

We are all influenced by others to some degree. With books and films etc it can be hard to develop an opinion, so it's easier to look to others.

Practise developing an opinion about books and films. Think about why you liked it or disliked it and then speak out loud to yourself, or write it down. Once you make an effort, you'll be surprised how much of an opinion you really have.

I agree with dudara. Truly original opinions are a rarity and almost every one of us is influenced by someone else to some degree, and if we're not then we're dubbed eccentrics and generally outcast.

It could be down to simply not having access to new areas of literature or music. A fantastic site that I use on frequent basis is music-map. Type in the name of one of those musicans/groups you 'like' and it'll throw you back a whole host of similars. Frankly, its blaydin' rappeh. If you happenupon something that catches the ear, you might find it on deezer. Might.

Actually, download Firefox if you've been living under a monolithic rock of some ridiculous ilk, then download the StumbleUpon toolbar. Searches the internet for the best of the best, under any tag/catagory you can actually muster.

Furthermore, and this is something I love doing, stroll into a HMV/whatever the f*uck Virgin's called these days and without looking at the Genre, pick out one, two or even three cd's based solely on the cover art. Buy whatever you're drawn to.

Also, look up music genres on wikipedia and investigate some of those, although I wouldn't recommend this with literature.
Soundtracks are usually a great way of discovering new artists.
