    Its a great game :D

If you are not into puzzles don't bother though.

From what I can find out on good 'ole google it would seem that Nov 7th is the European release date, but its not up on the site I normally use (and trust). Maybe ring around a few of the shops and see if they have a price yet. Its been out in USA since last Feb.

I haven't seen any advertising for it so far, on TV or in the shops.

Same here! It's really enjoyable. The fact that you get an extra puzzle every week after you've finished only adds to this little gem!

If you want to save some money, go and get the American version on Ebay. Better than being ripped off after prolonged waiting for the European release.

I played the US version, I don't expect there would be any difference in the European version. Its handy that the DS's are region free :D

    €45 in smyths
    €40 in game
Should be around €38 in tesco but when I checked yesterday in the square in tallaght they hadn't got the delivery so I got it in game ( couldn't wait)

Nice little game, about 40 puzzles in so far

I'm a litte over done with platformers and I've been looking forward to this game. I'd love to have something to engage with intellectually. I feel like I've gotten a little dumber in the last year or two from the lack of study and academic activity. Yay for puzzles!

Jaysus, I bought this a few days after the US launch, and this thread reminded me that I never finished it! You'll probably save some money by getting the US version shipped over if possible.

The power of advertising is amazing.

This game has been out absolutely ages. One ad on tv months and months later and now everyone wants it.

Which is a good thing as I've been harping on for ages to people about how great it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,892 ✭✭✭Harpy

it only came out in ireland last week or the week before..its been out in the US for ages alright..its a great game got it over in america over the summer highly addictive

Bought this last week as I had a long flight this weekend (and another next weekend) and this game is just animal, played it for pretty much the entire flight and good chunk of it was just staring at the screen. I have only not solved one or two that I have so far encountered.

The animation at the beginning and occasionally throughout the game is amazing.

Also is it just me or is it all a little Sherlock Holmes, the subordinate assistant, the relationship with the police, the nemesis etc etc? Not a complaint but this is exactly how a Sherlock Holmes game should be.

I'd say thats exactly what level 5 were aiming for :)

I can't remember where I was reading about it, so will just say:

Rumour has it there are 2 sequels in the pipeline :D

Hopefully they will bring forward the release dates for Europe, we had to wait too long for this one.

The third one is out in Japan in a couple of weeks! From Japanese - English (US) I can understand, but why did it take from February to November to add other European languages :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

i just finished it there, took me a little under a week.

i enjoyed the story for the most part, loved the cutscenes!, although by the end i was a little puzzled out. i only cheated by looking up the answers online for 2 of the puzzles.

now to go back and play all the bonus stuff.....

I was going to pick this up today but it was sold out everywhere in Galway. Good news I guess.

have been looking on-line for this game as an xmas present and i am just wondering is there 2 versions of this game.there are two different covers. is it just the differnet regions?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 988 ✭✭✭IsThatSo?

Not sure about that, but DS games are region free so either one will do unless its in Japanese :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,573 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

cheers .if its the pal version it would work/be in english?

There isn't a pal version, the ds games are region free so will work on any console worldwide.

I tried looking for this game today and tried a good few shops but no joy. Most places were selling it for around 40 euros but were out of stock. Having read this thread I checked out CDWOW and I see it on sale for 64.99 euros. Ouch !!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

Yeah, it's €64.99 on CDWow, £54.99 (about €64) on Amazon.co.uk and an incredible €71.94 on Play.com  It's only £34.99 if you select Sterling on Play though so clearly there's something dodgy there. Still, I'm shocked at these prices, it's rare but highly sought after and the shops know it!

Edit: It went up to £40.75 on Play.com as I was typing this post!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

Alright, that's downright robbery! I'll be getting it for under forty. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭fizzlepurplefuz

Ooooh i'm loving this game at the moment!!!!
I've completed the story, (strange twist and weird) but haven't completed all the puzzles yet. Can't wait for the sequel. If it's as good as the first i'll be in the queue for the release :D:D

This game is fantastic!! Just wish there were more hours in the day or more days in the week to play!!!!!!!!!!:D (you know, housework needing done, kids need feeding etc:D:D)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭baldbear

the price on play now is £42 which is €49 BUT when you click the € button it changes to €85????? WTF

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 760 ✭✭✭TheAlmightyArse

DS games aren't region coded, so if you're buying online, you're not limited to European sites. Here's a US copy of Professor Layton for £22 on MovieTyme, for example.

Tried to get this at the weekend up the north...in Belfast & Derry...can't get it anywhere. I was told that there was a delivery issue!

Mymemory have it for £25, it seems to be in stock. As said above though, the US version will work just fine, I've had it since April. I think this stock shortage should encourage the release of the sequels (and the shortage will pass too I hope)

    Out of stock too....

Play.com now have it for 99.99 euro?

I have a different DS game on preorder from them i wonder should i cancel in case they ramp up price when it comes in stock?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭robo

Thanks Redfox - €30 it works out as.
Anyone use this site before? Are they ok?

That is unbelievable, just saw it myself!!!
And cos it is hard to get in the shops, you will get some poor fool to buy it at that price!!

I've used them for memory in the past and they were very good, delivery was about a week. I haven't used them for games but I can't see it being any different.

Edit: That price on play.com is a 'playtrade' seller, similar to amazon marketplace, and not play's own pricing, they quote that as the main price as they themselves are out of stock. Still a shameless price though. Mymemory probably only have it as they're not well known for games, I saw it when checking the price of an SD card.

    Hi Guys,

The demand for Professor Layton completely outstripped supply of the game. The original production run was meant to have provided enough stock to last until Christmas but lasted three days at Nintendos distributors. At this point most retailers have sold through their stock.

Our understanding is that Nintendo are organising another production run to get stock back out before Christmas.

For what it's worth cdwow.ie have what looks like the US version due into them and have it up for €57.99 which is a scandolous price http://www.cdwow.ie/Professor-Layton-And-The-Curious-Village/product/view/3842074 in my personal oppinion considering the RRP is €44.99 but if anyone is desperate for it looks like you can get it there.

This looks like it might be along the same lines as Professor Layton. Just says TBA 2009 but could be a good one for anyone that enjoyed the Prof.

Isn't there sequels to Hotel Dusk and Another Code coming as well? Those 2, 2 more Layton's and Flower, Sun and Rain (as long as it's good) would be animal and prove there is a market for LucasArts to resurrect their point 'n' clicks (I have ScummVM on my DS but would love proper Monkey Island ports)
