Digital Audio to Analog

    hi,

    i got myself a new 42" HD Lcd over the weekend. i have one slight problem though, the tv only has a digital audio (optical) output, no analog (rca) output. unfortunately i have an amp that's a few years old and does not have a digital input. any body know where i could pick up a converter in Dublin, similar to this one so i can play the sound from the tv through my speakers: http://sewelldirect.com/GefenTV-Digital-Audio-to-Analog-Adapter.asp

    i presume that'd do the job? i would order it but with shipping the cost comes to $125.11! bit too pricey! i don't want to replace the amp 'cause it cost me quite a bit & is still a quality piece of kit.

    any one have any solutions/ideas? cheers

    you might be able to get one in maplins.

    is one of your scart sockets an output as well?? cos you could use that with a scart to 2 rca cable

    thanks for you suggestion.

    unfortunately there is no scart out on either the lcd or the set top box. the cable coming out of the set top box (stb) has what looks like an s-video port out to scart in. thats how its connected at the moment, i wonder if i could get a s-video out to scart & rca in. then could connect the s-video to STB, then scart to LCD & rca to amp. havn't been able to find any yet as its quite odd to have an rca in + a scart in!

    hmmm, i dont really understand what you're tryin to say there.. what STB do you have?? i'd be very surprised if it only had an s-video out. s-video is picture only.

    what is the model number of the tv? most tvs that have 2 scarts, one would be in only and the 2nd in & out.

    hey big_moe, yeah its not actually s-video but the port looks the same as an s-video connection. pm'd you the details there. thnks for your help.
