I know there have been some recent trips, Fota etc but anyone fancy doing something in the South-West region any time soon? No set ideas at the moment, just that I haven't taken any photos in ages and would be nice to have some people to go somewhere with and get some motivation! Open to all suggestions.

    :)

Sorry for my ignorance, but is that Dec 21st ish?

And following week. I just don't like misusing names of local places and celebrations by globalising organizations...
Newgrange shows us what are the true roots of our society ;)

Sorry, that is about the only weekend that I won't be free - I have a family wedding on the 20th.

I'll be down under definitely spending last few days of this year.

I don't know yet. I just want and need to get out of Dublin to have space for drinking studying and relaxing. And discovering this beautiful country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭jen_23

I'd be intersted in this could go west cork or bunratty in Limerick or cliffs of mohr (however that will be so cold!!!)??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Well, Cliffs of Moher really require very good weather. And it is a touristic Mecca - ton's of (mostly) annoying tourists.

I'll be in west Kerry, so anywhere from Clare to Cork would be fine.

I've got furthest to Skibereen, so Valentia a Beara are my targets. It looks that I could get the whole two weeks off! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭sheesh

Hi I'm available I'll try to get a couple of others as well.

Locations: well you could spend a day around killarney if you wanted to. its compact unless you do molls gap (which is cool too!)

you could do dingle and the west weather seems to be sunshine and showers at the moment and for the last 6 months But that is good as it will be all rugged and changing light.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭RichyX

    I'd be interested in going.
Due to college commitments I won't really be in a position to go anywhere until after December 19th.
I'll be quite busy over with projects over Xmas, and most of the next 6 months tbh, but I'll do my best to make it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

I'd be interested in this Kate, speak to me offline when you get chance will ya!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 578 ✭✭✭Caros

Living in North Cork but from SW Kerry and very new to a DSLR but would be interested in this if there was an expidition. Free-ish most weekends.

have we a date and time for this yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Give me a date, and I'll see if I can get there!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Covey

Between Xmas and New Year would suit me !

The same here, just somebody set a date when you could show us hidden places and cozy pubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Xmas -> NY would suit grand. I reckon I'll actually be in Limerick (Nearer the Tipp border though) for Christmas itself, so will be near enough. Any distractions or reasons to get me out of there will be much appreciated.

Cheers Al, if you're sponsoring trips to New York for Christmas, sign me up!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Actually, the original idea was for me to be in NY for New Years...

Unfortunately, reality/family got in the way... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Down to Co. Cork with you. And with MkII. 5D, not Escort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭Thoie

I'll be in Cork between Christmas and New Year and would be happy to show people Marlogue Woods and other areas around Cobh that I haven't been to in yonks. Would be happy to pick a few people up at Cobh train station and bring them out if I'm free on the day.

There's also a disused factory in east Cork with all kinds of bits and bobs in it (obvious industrial stuff, as well as an old protected building and gardens). If people were interested in that kind of thing I might be able to get permission for a group to go around. It would have to be a sensible group of people in sensible clothing - there'd be all sorts of safety requirements, and if you were told to get down off that ladder you'd have to be able to do as you were told :D

If anyone is interested in the factory idea, PM me and I'll see what I can do. If we're going it would be with full owner's permission etc, but we might have to pay for a security guard to accompany us. There might also have to be liability waivers and stuff.

might be interested in this also, depends when it is though I'm off for two weeks over christmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭jen_23

Is the destination Cork then? I can def make that :P

I'm just gona throw out two dates and see what way everyone is about them, as the days are flying to christmas!!
What about the 28th or 29th? Christmas and st.Stephens day/night and respective hungover mornings are out of the way by then ;).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

I would be interested in this so if we could set a date soon it would be a great help. I'm working over Christmas and need to put in for my days off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭sheesh

you started this thread where were you thinking of going????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Sorry guys, life has been errrr manic for me lately and I forgot to check back here. I have to play bridesmaid at a family wedding on Dec 20th, and will be pretty tied up with that over Christmas but other than that week Im free for any place any time. I guess Cork is probably the best location for most people, but whatever the majority would prefer!! :)

Any time between the Christmas holidays and rugby matches would suit me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

That east Cork factory idea sounds interesting to me. Plus its close enough to be a day trip rather than an overnighter :) Consider me interested. I'm free pretty much from the 18th until the 30th, besides the likes of Christmas day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭latchiko

Count me in for this too! The factory idea sounds great as well. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

I'm also interested in this count me in date dependant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

    I'll withdraw from this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 874 ✭✭✭Max001

Great idea Thoie. I'm supposed to be in Dub those dates, however if that changes, myself and another DSLR beginner may make it. Contact you nearer the time, once I know my plans.
Off the wall suggestion. I live in Cork and find it a very photogenic place as well as compact enough to walk around easily. UCC/Shandon/docks/rivers etc etc might be an alternative.
Like your idea more though! ;)

I'd be interested in the factory thing too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

I don't remember seeing any date(s) mentioned here.

Can we be a little more precise? I have to plan in advance, that's why I am asking. I would prefer town/village or countryside trip to factory shooting, but at least I can walk there without taking any pictures :-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Covey

I'll bow out of the Factory thing also.

Still interested in Kerry/West Cork though ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Out to the nature, that's my aim. And if some less popular spots are found, the happier I will be.

Anyone for the Dingle penninsula then?

26th there's the Wren Boys in Dingle. ( Pint in Foxy John's afterwards ? )

7/8 Mile walk on the beach from Gowlane to the tip of the Maherees (pint in Spillane's afterwards ?)

    Subject to weather

Walk from Brandon Quay to Sauce Creek with stupendous views (Pint in Murphy's afterwards ? ).

Leisurely walk to Eask Tower with fantastic views of Dingle Bay and the Iveragh penninsula. (Pint in Curran's afterwards ?)

The Hidden Hill Fort of Cathair Con Ri (pint in Ashe's, Camp afterwards ?).

I could go on and on ....

Well, if you were up to it, we could do the Three Sisters ;)::D

(couple of half ones in Sayers afterwards ? )

That is a good suggestion (and Closer to home for me!) pretty good scene in dingle for the wran old masks made of straw. makes for good photography.

    see this

    not mine by the way.

Covey's idea is better. Just have to make sure I've nothing planned with the women

If we could nail a date down this week I can start organising myself. I really want to head down to Cork again over Christmas. The 26th doesn't suit me but the 27-29th does.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,281 ✭✭✭Ricky91t

I might be around for this and sounds good, sadly i'm only 17 so no pints :)
I'll see if i can make arrangements for around those dates!
