Recently took up archery and I'm hooked.
We have been adviced not to buy any equipment until the course is finished which is fair enough.
At the end of the course I obviously want to buy my own gear but heres my query, in my mind I would rather spent alot on one of the best longbows which I can use hopefully in competitions and generally get used to that bow and only that bow. I dont want to buy an average bow then after a period of time have to fork out for a better bow if I progress.
I dont want to come across as cocky or ahead of myself, but do ye think this is the correct way to go about it.
Also, any websites/outlets who supply this equipment please, ideally I would like to see and feel before I buy.
    Thanks.

    Hi there.

If its longbow your aftern then the best place to go is Flybow, I think the site is www.flybow.de

Its based in Mayo and make and sell longbows, trad bows and arrows.

I had a look at that site ( and may I add those two women posing with the bows look great :) ), but I am looking for the more modern recurve ( olympic style ) bows, such as win win, samick etc. I found a site in co.Meath, but for financial reasons would you recommend buying online or maybe is there a place in the north given the value of the euro to pound now.
You know what I mean , the best bow for the lowest price;)
    Thanks

We get a lot of out club stuff from altservices, however, if you are going for a "first bow" then going to a shop locally (as in Ireland somewhere) is the best bet. They can set you up for your specifics (draw length, bow size, arrow spine etc.). Buying online is a cheap and effective way of getting stuff, but you can only get exactly what you ask for.

www.archeryshop.ie and www.irisharcheryspecialists.com are both good at setting someone up with a first bow and all the gear.
