i got the youtube one alright. But i was on me phone when i clicked on it and it didnt work. Me 1 virus 0 lol

Yeah, its not youtube, its something like youtube-spy.com or the like that. If you let it installs an activeX control which is 99% chance gonna be some sort of malware. DO NOT CLICK OK!.

I got it from Alan too, I've advised him that his account has been compromised and he's said he's gonna do as suggested(change pass and run spyware[keylogger] check).

    Shouldnt happen again:)

It's not just A0lan, it's a load of people, I have gotten it from 3 people now.

It's a virus on your pc, a simple scan should find it, just pass the word around

Being a victim of social engineering has nothing to do with intelligence, or its lack - its a technique employed by scammers (or anyone else who might want to get private or sensitive information from you) and relies on inexperience and trust to achieve its aims.

It would probably surprise you to learn that not everyone is as au fait with the Internet and PCs in general as you are, because believe it or not, some people see computers as a tool, and use them only as a tool - they dont spend their days surfing, coding, gaming or Bebo'ing, so their exposure to these techniques would be limited.

I'm sure there are certain skills that you, like everyone else on the planet, are lacking in - it doesnt make you or them stupid. Stupid comments are a fairly reliable indicator though.

If you're buying a new computer, consider a Mac or an Ubuntu system - phish-free Airsoft on the interwebs! Mind you, if you're surfing Bebo and you're over the age of 21... ;)

I find it easier just to avoid these things.

Bebo and other such places are akin to a hookers ass when it comes to viruses.

Ah no, I'm not ragging on your page...it's just that I for one, had to learn these lessons the hard way, now I just stay away from certain sites and programmes.

Get a Mac. It just works.

If you want flexibility or power, use unix or Linux.

If it absolutely, positively has to work 24x365, use VMS. Non-stop, unhackable and virus-free since 1978.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭Fyr.Fytr

Yea im getting these off all my friends on bebo the give away was "WOW Looks like someone leaked your private video", little did they know it was a dvd :p

But seriously i bet loads of people are being caught out, be safe

i just dont use bebo or the likes anymore

I just get constant messages to see someones webcam or " o i found a picture of you"

Bebo is also sending mails from your mates to you, if they fell for it, then they sent messages form their account unaware.

A similar thing has hit msn for some time, you get a msg from a mate saying " hey i found this pic of you" and its a dirty virus.

Rule of thumb, if anyone links you to something saying check this pic/webcam etc, dont click it.

If you think it might be real, jsut send them a comment first to be doubley sure.

But these sites are plagued at the moment, at first i thought i was god when loads of fine looknig birds where sending me messages saying " hey your hot, click my webcam" etc, but jsut no, dont do it.

Dont fall for the scantaly clad women like i did :(

"It would probably surprise you to learn that not everyone is as au fait with the Internet and PCs in general as you are,"

He doesnt have a clue...he is always clicking those webcam links just doesnt tell anyone.

I stopped using Bebo about 2 weeks ago. Dozen of spam mails, comments etc every day and Bebo Support could offer no way to stop it. I'd recommend switching to Facebook as it's far far superior (although you need a while to figure out how to use all the features)

Sorry, dont mean to be offensive or anything but...

HAHAHAHA:D or as sean would say, "EPIC LULZ!":P

The internet can be a dangerous place, the problem is that you dont need any "training" to use it. I'd say[no backing, just a guess] nowadays probably 90% or more of serious malware on peoples machines was OK'd by them, though they had no idea what they were doing. P2Ps are suicide if you dont have a basic idea of what you are doing.

I wish these thugs would go back to bricking busses and the like, at least then they'd be easier to catch.

Put your bebo on private if you have one.

No more webcam stacy xxx looking for a chat, no more virus bollocks.

Or ignore teh bebo until it dies, either is good.

Roger that. But I'm past caring. I have 20+years of supporting and/or working on 4 platforms. Three of them range from "Nothing stops it" to pretty good to "it just works". The other one sucks. <shrug>
