I'm about to begin receiving Jobseeker's Benefit from tomorrow through my local Post Office, but I've lost my card! I can't get through to the local Welfare office either.

I'm wondering if I can show up at the Post Office with my passport and the letter authorising my payment. Naturally I'll apply for a new card ASAP, but I'd like to get paid tomorrow if possible!

Call out to the SW office in person, I think they can give you a temp card (ie a little printed paper "card" with your details on it, with their official stamp) until you get reissued with your offical plastic RSI card.

Bring your passport or other photo ID.

How do you know when your first payment is ready? Do they send a letter to notify you? Do you get your back pay from the post office or do they send you a cheque? Been on hold with the SW office for over an hour now trying to find out. They are not very helpful. Thanks!

they should send you letter to say your claim has been successful. you'll prob be waiting at least 3 weeks from when you applied for it though

Yes you can, I collected a payment using this method last week.

Depends on the post office / postal clerk. I work in one and we are certainly not supposed to but its up to the clerk at the end of the day. Just dont count on it.

You can get a temporary card from social welfare - takes them ages to supply you with a new card.
