    Hi,

My son has asked me to get him a radio for xmas, that allows him listen to the flight crew when in and around Dublin Airport - can anyone tell me if there is such a thing, if it's indeed legal to have one, and if so, where to get one?

Why couldn't he have wanted a playstation ?

    thanks,

    Paul

Here's a brief explanation from Pprune http://www.pprune.org/atc-issues/206063-listening-uk-atc-communications-law.html although it deals with English legislation, it is basically the same in this country.

Not quite, it is legal to tune in to ATC in Ireland, and OP, they're a lot cheaper than a playstation!lol:D

Bearcat or Uniden.....I have a 30 year old example right next to me!

    The law is very differnet from the UK here;

In Ireland you are permitted to listen, share or distribute ATC. In the UK are not; hence why there are no UK Live ATC feeds.

If you live anywhere in Dublin/Meath you'll be able to recieve Dublin North/South control and probably director.

    Freqs:

    EIDW_TWR 118.6
    EIDW_GND 121.8
    EIDW_DEL 121.87
    EIDW_ATIS 124.52
    EIDW_N_CTR 129.17
    EIDW_APP 121.1
EIDW_S_CTR 120.05 (Might have changed again...)

Hi, I listen to a radio 2 or 3 hours a day in house. These radio power consumption in radio operation: 5 watt. In standby 1.2 watt. The wife on to me, e.s.b. bill so high(.Me Radio will some cents, A few euro no.)

On normal ESB rates, which are about 16 cents per unit, you will get about 200 Hours of listening for one unit, and nearly 800 hours of standby, so 3 hours a day on, and 21 standby = app 40 watt hours per day, so 25 days for 16 cents, so about .6 cents per day.

Your radio is not a problem in terms of the ESB bill, unless you also have a few high power halogen lights on, and a couple of electric fires to keep warm. Then it might be.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
