Litter bugs on Corrib

Was on Corrib last Friday, was out at first light, set up the deeks and positioned the boat in the reeds before sun up. As the sun rose it became clear the spot had been shot in the past few days and I was disgusted to see about 60 or 70 empty shells floating in the reeds in front of the boat. Not sure if the culprits use this site, if ye are on here shame on ye. As soon as the wind changes the shells will drift off and be washed up on the shores for miles around. Apart from bad PR it's bloody ignorant and shows a huge disregard for the local environment. I am local and would know most of the lads who shoot the area. We have been having problems with lads coming down from Athlone and Mullingar and shooting the crap out of the lake. Ducks, seagulls, lapwings you name it, and to be honest there is no way in the best session possible would you fire 70 odd shells at duck, the shooting up there is not near that good. So if anybody is out shooting Corrib, by all means have a good day shooting duck, leave the other birds alone and bring your crap home, I guess that goes for any place you go shooting.:mad::mad:

PS, hope ye all had a great season opener (last Sat) and best of luck for the rest of it........

Unfortunately that is quite common. You only have to visit pigeon hotspots to see the piles of cartridges left in the ditches. I suspect it's semi auto users who can't catch them and just leave them where they fall.

I came across what is probably a worse incident. A few years ago on Lough Derravarragh I saw lads out shooting on boats. Later that day I passed where they had been parked and on the grond was the piles of empties that they had so carefully pocketed while in the boats only to dump them in the car park!

I used to think all hunters had a degree of respect for the natural world, and that this was part of an outdoors lifestyle.
But I am saddened to hear of this kind of thing happening it really does our sport no favours to have this kind of moronic behaviour by a cretinous few who seem to think that pulling the trigger is the be-all and end all of the sport.
probably the same kind of person that shoots road signs etc.

Was returning from Kerry last week and saw this road sign shot on a very busy section of main Limerick to Dublin road, just outside Monasterevin.

At a glance, it appears to be a high powered round!............besides the vandalism look at the height of the shot from the ground!!!.........extremely dangerous and highly irresponsible

You should cross the Corrib and come arround Tuam, some places are disgusting , shells all over the place in the bogs following clay pigeon shooting.

signs in wicklow are shot to bits through out the county. there is one just out side aughrim showing the way to mc creddin village with a large bullet hole in it .the ass hole that fired it should never own a firearm again there is a lot of houses around it ,its going back to what we were talking about before (gun crime ).there is a element in this country that have no regard for man or beast and should not be allowed the privilege of owning firearms let alone be allowed to hunt game and deer
