Now that the "it'd be funny if it wasn't so serious" president, George W. Bush is on the way out I think the world can breath a sigh of relief and look back of the brilliance that was Americas greatest president, based purely on his ability to make the world laugh.

Share your favorite Bush moments and remember, we almost died!

He's still in office until January, anything could happen until then. ANYTHING.

I keep telling the wife the same thing, but since we got married she's just let herself go tbh.

I, like Georgie W, do believe that human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully. Oh yes, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ... see, if you get fooled you can't get fooled again.

For you see, we misunderestimated Georgie W, and the question must be asked: is our children learning? What we can be sure of is that most of our exports come from overseas. Throughout history, the words of the Declaration have inspired immigrants from around the world to set sail to US shores. These immigrants have helped transform 13 small colonies into a great and growing nation of more than 300 people.

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we. I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family but there should be limits to our freedoms.

Now watch me sink this putt...

A few months ago when Bush was eyeing up Iran for a pre-emptive strike, I thought that he would end up dealing with Iran as one of the last things he did while in office, literally an 11th hour course of action, just before a new president was sworn in, he would send out a battle group and set back Iran's nuclear ambitions by about 10 years. Could happen yet!

A lot of peoples hopes are going to be shattered when Obama attacks his first country. At least he'll do it in a smart and elegant way i guess...

OT and a serious (shock horror) question but whats the basis for limiting US presidents to 2 terms? Whats the incentive to bother your hole doing anything in your 2nd term seeing as your out on your ear one way or another?

Having your entire party looking to you to ensure they get re-elected would be a pretty good incentive I would imagine.

    And a serious answer.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
Some wiki reading for you on the 22nd Amendment which limits the presidency to 2 terms (it addresses some of your questions without toally answering them)

Don't most countries have a limit of 2-3 consecutive terms?

I'd imagine it's to stop the same person from f*cking up too much stuff.

The person who came up with that had a nice bit of foresight!

I think the thinking is probably to prevent dictatorships developing or something like that but really when you think about it, it probably doesn't make much sense. Let's say for a minute George Bush was a perfectly competent president, wouldn't it make a lot of sense to have the option of voting in a guy with significant presidential experience? I mean most people don't get really good at their job for a few years. What's the point in confining yourself to candidates with 4 or less years in the job?

and stops great leaders from continueing great work. A bad one can be voted out, a great one cant be kept.

It's the same story with a lot of other presidencies around the world including ourselves of course.

The Americans seem to have adopted it as being anti-monarchist. Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1807 "if some termination to the services of the chief Magistrate be not fixed by the Constitution, or supplied by practice, his office, nominally four years, will in fact become for life."

    "

Our president isnt the same as theirs though. Comparing the Taoiseach position to the presidency in the us would be more appropriate.

But our equivalent office is really that of Taoiseach which has no such limitation. The Irish President is a lame duck from the time they are elected the first time around. :D

Well yeah. I'd rather our president should have some form of power or just be abolished. Then someone might bother running against an incumbant.

Imagine Bertie was restricted to two terms. We could of had a vote on whether we wanted Cowen as Taoiseach!

Pah I would not be getting too worried/happy yet about the end of Bush/stupidity. The prospect of Sarah Palin getting in to power has me pooing my pants.

She makes dubya look very intelligent and if you think it can't happen now or in 4/8 years time just remember we are talking about the same country who elected George W Bush. Twice!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,608 ✭✭✭Spud83

    He ain't finished yet.

Its really one of the reasons why Obama winning scares me as if it was an Republican president coming in then Bush and his puppet masters would have some responsibility of not f*cking everything up in their last few months, but with a Democrat winning they just might not give a sh*t, and G.W Bush not giving a sh*t scares me.

The only good thing is the Congress and Senante are both under the control of the Democrats and can hopefully limit any harm Bush can do in the next few months.

Nope. Bertie may in fact be one of the smartest politicians ever. As CJH said, "He's the most skilful, the most devious, the most cunning of them all."

Just look at the timing of his departure. He waved goodbye to everybody, slammed the door as he was leaving and the whole house of cards collapsed on the eejit he left in charge. That was his greatest "teflon Taoiseach" moment. The man's a genius. He managed to portray himself as a man of the people when he was no such thing and got re-elected with ease even when the party was mired in scandal.
