The set design for the RTE news is an abomination, there can be no other word for it. I've hated it from day one and it's about time it was changed. I won't hold out too much hope that the new design would be a whole lot better but something has to be done.

    What does it matter?

I think its quite good, as news sets go.

Brain Dobson brightens the place up with his Aura dont you think!

I was too busy looking at Sharon to be taking in Brian's aura. "quite good", you're having a laugh, it's hideous.

Its one of the least worst sets RTE has come up with and far nicer than the crude design that preceeded it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It's a studio where the news is read - are you looking for floral prints and a velvet fronted desk?

Great suggestion, anything else of worth to contribute?

I have two fingers on the veins in my wrist, checking my pulse, seeing if it can go any slower.

atm, about 1 beat per minute, I am almost clinically dead but try as I might, I just cannot get it to go any slower.

In otherwords, I clinically cannot care any less

People do not agree with you. Get over it. No need for your sarky replies.

While not being the most important thing by a long shot about the news, to be fair I have always wondered why it is so dull.

Its not a patch on the simple yet very effective BBC news studio. 2 large screens at an apparent right angle with a good roundish desk. As someone who watches TV news everyday, RTE news could do with a brightening up.

    and those laptops.....

I would like to see Sharon's Legs if possible so can we spend some tv licence money to make the desks out of glass ;)

They are getting a new one in the New year, I hear. At last.

The only set I don't like is the ITV one, but that could be because I don't like ITV News.

I was actually only admiring it myself yesteday evening, I quite like it.
Better than anything on any other of the Irish and UK stations.

The ironic thing is that the ITV one can be great, as News at Ten shows. The actual set is very minimal and the "Theatre of News" backdrop can be adapted very easily to show anything. But the main ITV News bulittens have this wierd cyan theme and attempt to show ITN headquarters off, but don't really.

Am not a fan of the current main ITV News look - but then ITN have had diabolical Americanised presentation since 1999 (the 1999-2004 scheme being the worst) and the news content has been dumbed down massively with the reintroduction of an old-style News at Ten this year being perhaps the only slight reversal of this.

Bring Trevor back and rescheduling the service was the only really U turn IMO.

Something is up alright. A new studio design might be coming. The studio seems a little different in the last few days. It looks like they are moving things around. No long shots of the studio and the background looks like it was pulled up and put back together again.

    Never liked it anyway.

it was a blue screen so no background there....??

Further to this idea I suggest making the floor out of mirrors.
