The rumours that have been flying around for the last few months have been confirmed. Ed Joyce is leaving Middlesex and will be joining Sussex for next season. He will get to have a final bash with the Middlesex team in the Champions League.

I do not think money is a major factor in his leaving, as he would have been due a benefit season in the next couple of years.

Best of luck to him, and hopefully the new challenge of playing at Sussex will increase his chances of getting back into the England setup.

    Joyce quits Middlesex for Sussex

After months of speculation, Middlesex have finally confirmed that Ed Joyce will leave the county at the end of the year and move to Sussex.
"He felt he needed a fresh challenge," Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington told the BBC. "He felt moving counties would help him rediscover the form that got him into the England side a couple of years ago. He's been absolutely spot on in all of the negotiations and in all of his communication with us.
"He was always one of the first names on the team-sheet and he has been outstanding and undoubtedly we're going to miss him. We've signed Neil Dexter from Kent and we're very pleased with that signing. He played very well in Antigua. We've still got a very strong batting line-up."
Joyce will play his last matches for Middlesex in the Champions League in India in December.

Yes indeed, does he have a chance of getting back into the one-day or T20 team for England? It would be a tremendous achievement but I suspect that my money is more on Morgan and O'Brien given their ages.

If he wants to play for England in 20/20 then by all means he should stay at middlesex but realistically what cricketer only pushes for that. Sussex could be the stepping stone to put Joyce back into the ODI set up. All the best to our fellow Irishman.
