    Guys,
Employer says cant pay us this month, but hopes to in 3 or 4 weeks, will this happen, only if backing comes through, in the mean time we are left wondering if we will get paid or whether to leave or not.

IS there any social welfare setup that cant get us out of this hole while we are not getting paid or is it tough luck???

    Thanks

    It's tough luck I'm afraid.

I went through all of this myself about 7 years ago.

If it turns out your employer can't pay you, you can claim some of the money back via the rights commissioner (?) if I remember correctly. Basically this is sort of like an informal court hearing where you plead your case and then you get a cheque. I managed to get about 5k out of it, but I was owed about 10k...

Certainly you should be looking for a new job at this stage!

It is a shambles, only issue now is that i will, IF I can get one, need to do a min 1.5 drive to and from the only potential town which is not going to be pleasant :o
What I dont want to do is to run now and for the backers to come along and for things to sort them out, I will be left doin my 3 hours of driving, paying my petrol and possibly on less money. So you see my situation, not straight forward.

Are you sure they are going to pay you in a couple of weeks, if I were you I'd be looking around for some local seasonal work just to tie you over to the next pay cheque. I had to do the same mate, ended up gutting fish at the weekends for money, got paid in full at the end and gave up the crappy job, but might be worth it to get something.

Aye that is true, did not think about that, but its frickin Mayo, jobs are a beeutch to get besides.
But I am FAR from fussy, would work at anything to keep the sponds moving in. I will have to look at the part-time job sites an see if I can find something for a few weekends or nights.

One thing though Hash, when you were in that situation, how hard did you find it to work for the person who did not pay you?
Its hard to motivate yourself in this situation, even been 100% professional, not actually knowing where you stand puts a stick in the spokes!!

    Thanks for the advice folks

Its tough keeping the moral up, no doubt, at least it sounds like things are keeping busy, and its not a case of work drying up. Even though things worked out I lost trust in the company and left, they're still going! So maybe I should have stayed.. ;)

I would have something as backup though 100% there should be plenty of work in the local sorting office around this time, would you be able to cut your hours in your "real" job if you got something, I dont know how your boss would react to that, but at the end of the day ....

There is LOOOOADS of work, I could spend 10 hours a day there, actually wait I do ;)

So for me it would be going from work to work to bed. Again I did it for long enough doin our house, so a day which is 16/18 hours long IF it has to be done will be done.

I dont want as my epitaph (Sp) "Captained The Titanic" :)
