Have to go to london for a training course tomorrow. Is it ok to take electrical equipment as carry on luggage (by that i mean a small handheld meter and recharging adapter). Also, a few spanners (no i'm not joking!).

I'd imagine its ok but then can't take anything for granted on flights these days. Can anyone confirm that the above are acceptable for carry-on?

Would assume spanners would be seen as weapons depending on the guy doing the security check.

From Aer Lingus forbidden include. Have a look through their website.

I had no problem with a backpack with 10kilos of random stuff in it... including a laptop + charger. They do ask you to take things like laptops out to be x-ray'd separately mind.

Only problem I had was a tine of DvD's that made the X-ray man think.

Who you are flying with is irrelavent to what you have in your carry on bags, you just need to get through security.

As for carry on being over weight though it all depends on how obviously overweight the bag is when you approach the checkin desk, if you look like your strugleing to carry it or have too many bags then they will query it and probably make you put stuff in the hold. Wear more stuff in coat pockets if possible and then if they do decide to weigh your bag it will not matter, then just stick it all back in the bag once on the plane.

Had no problems except for my (Ryanair) online checkin printed off without bar codes. Had been a good while since travelled/did online checkin before so wasn't aware these were needed. This mean't that had to check-in - as did a lot of others who had experienced exactly the same problem.
Have noticed that its very difficult to find overhead baggage space anymore - obviously a result of their baggage charging policies..

sorry i thought different airlines had different limits on hand luggage so one might be stopped while boarding if the bag is too big or something

They do have different restrictions on carry on baggage, but unless your taking the piss with what your carrying on then you'll be fine. Also if your going to the US then it's unlikely that you'd actually have bigger carry on bags than the American passengers on your flight anyway.

the limit is 22" long, my smallest suitcase is 26" long but idk if i should chance it or just buy a duffle bag..
