GHD Type Curler

    Hi,

My other half really likes when her hair is GHD curled and has often tried to do it herself (which is fair enough as it's €60+ for a hair do that lasts a few hours) but fails and gets annoyed everytime. So I got the idea of buying her an actual curling thingy instead, which might make the job easier.

I haven't a clue where to start. Can anyone recommend a curler that will do the job with similar curls to GHD?

To be honest, I'm not sure if a curling tongs would make things any easier. The trick is to properly separate the hair into sections, and to get the technique right with the GHD. I think you'd be holding your arms up for much longer with a tongs since it wouldn't get so hot!

I've never been able to curl my hair until I got a GHD. It wasn't easy to begin with, but with a bit of patience and perserverance, I got it in the end.

there are some useful videos on youtube ... and perhaps you could help her?! The back is always the trickiest! :)

I bought one of those curling tongs that are supposed to give you loose curls, similar to GHD curls, but it was pretty useless. I ended up with ringlets :( A GHD does a much better job, it takes a bit of practise, but it's definitely worth it.

I agree, don't waste money on curlers. GHD curls are really easy once you get the nack, and are really quick. She should just get the hairdresser to teach her next time.

Hmm I'd get her a good heat spray, and a packet of hair-sectioning clips from Boots instead!! :D

i agree. . .once ya get the hang of using the ghd, you'll never use anything else! tell her to use it in the same way you use a scissors to curl a ribbon, it's the same technique, and once ya get it, it's simple! curling tongs are useless, and nearly always turn out like cork screw curls, which are really old fashioned :P

I'm still not great at it tbh, even after people teaching me and watching videos. I have a curler as well so.

Sectioning the hair correctly and getting a good product suitable to your hair will make it easier

The GHD curling does take a bit of getting used to although I still use a curler from time to time. I avoid the ringlet look by curling different sized sections of hair and then shaking them out a bit with my hands.

It really isn't. I can do it on others but not on myself. I have tried it over and over and still can't get it right, I have sholder length hair, it's thick and healthy, but it just won't curl with my GHD. Am I doomed for straightness, or can anyone offer help?

(I have tried the youtube videos but they won't work on me! Is the method length-ist?:pac:)

It's probably the length of your hair that's the problem. Mine didn't look right till it grew an inch or two below my shoulder. The thickness of your hair might have something to do with it aswell.

I learned how to do it by watching a video on you tube a couple of times. Has she tried that? Or practicing on someone else?

Thanks everyone, taken the advise and saved myself a few quid ;)

I would advise u to buy her a braun styling curling tongs one with a fairly fat barrel will give her a nice curl on chin length hair and longer, most of them now a days have a spritzer which sets the hair as it curls.
u will get them in any chemist or if u really looking for a ghd go to peter marks,as they sell them
