Rafa talking of Torres as 70% ready which is not enough for a start. I'd like to see 4-4-2 for this one tbh, Keane doesn't work as a lone striker (any sort of striker?).

I hope he will be ready. He has been doing light training for some time now.

I would like to see Babel and Keane up front. Keane offers alot lot more than just goals and it is time that fans start realising that.

Hope Torres will be up to it.

    Reina

    Arbeloa---Carra--Agger--Aurelio

    Alonso---Masch

    Kuyt----Gerrard----Riera

    Babel

That would be my team. Babel is much more suited to the lone striker role. Keane drops deep...which you cant really do if youre the lone striker. Keane has played about 12 games for Liverpool scoring 2 goals, I think Babel would have gotten considerably more in this space of time. Keane and Torres to come on in the second half and a change to 4-4-2 if we really need a goal.

That is true, but right now we need some goals.

I think a few of our players need a rest. Masch, Riera and Kuyt looked shattered the other day. I think all 3 could do with it off and not called upon unless absolutely required.

    Id like to see

    Pepe

    Arbeloa
    Aurelio
    CarrAgger

    Lucas
    Xabi

    Babel
    Stevie
    Pennant

    Ngog

You wanna give Athletico a rest too or something? :D

I dont think its that weak

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,259 ✭✭✭✭Melion

Maybe throw Babel up top on his own instead of Ngog and Yossi on the left.

Barring taking a risk on Torres I'd like to see as strong a team as is available, get the win and then we have 2 CL games to rest players.

I'd like to see Aguero from the start of this one , They haven't been on the best of form recently still it was a decent enough draw and I imagine a similar result in Liverpool would be sufficent

keep changing on the team i think will play tonight

    .........................reina......................
    arbeloa.......carra.........agger......aurelio

    .................lucas.........alonso............

    kuyt.................gerrard.............babel
    ........................keane......................

or else maybe 4-4-2 with pennant in for lucas, gerrard in middle and kuyt up front with keane

ah feck it i dont know:o

anyway predict a 2-0 win for the pool

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Thats my Fantasy Rafa selection. Would actualy prefer 4-4-2 Kuyt/Keane with Gerrard on the right but that simply wont happen.

    Mike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

I think we might see Riera in for Babel, as it gives Rafa more options to tweak things with the players on the pitch, in terms of 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,761 ✭✭✭redzerdrog

    official team:

    ....................reina.....................
    arbeloa....carra...agger.....aurelio
    ..............masch..alonso.............

    kuyt...........gerrard............riera
    .................keane........................

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Benayoun, Babel, Lucas, Ngog, Degen.

very strong line up more or less 1st choice of wats available

would like a replay of that chance, was agger fouled or did he just make a mess of the chance?

    <edit>
just got one, looked dodgy alright

what odds Dunphy ignores the fact that the full back is bombing into the corner? Just like Dossena did in the last tie...

christ looks like we have yet another dodgey ref tonight.

hate when fans boo the opposition not putting the ball out of play for a player being injured, while the home side did not try to put the ball out either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,591 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

early days yet, but im not liking the look of Gerrard tonight so far. Has made some stupid passing decisions and a lot of his bread and butter short passes have been a yard or so behind the player...hopefully he can pick it up a bit..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

If he's not going to book him why not play the advantage? stupid ref.

    Alonso's playing deadly.

    FFS.
    1-0.
    Maxi Rodriguez.

    What a goal! True class.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The ref is a useless waste and Atlectico have just scored.

4-2-3-1 with Torres is heaven, the same with Keane is a nightmare.

Very well taken goal. Hope it springs pool to life and Robbie won't waste anymore chances.

christ, where do they find some of these match officials, honestly?! Seen so many clear awful mistakes this year its unbelieveable!

we're trying to hard to score at the moment, we need to be more patient with the build up play...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,591 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Could see Babel on for Riera before too long, has probably been Riera's worst game in red so far.
