    nothing major atm but it will go FTA soon so can be added in extra channels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    It will also be available on freesat very soon. DS someone stated that their contract with sky expires 31st October and test transmissions on freesat will start end of first week of november.

    Though I have FIVE since Analogue Sat Days, I've watched stuff on it less than a handful of times...

    I watch a few shows on it, like the Gadget Show, Fifth Gear, etc. The missus does seem to record a lot of stuff on Fiver.

    Regardlless of content, it's still another channel to have listed, when it goes FTA. It's sure better than a lot of the other FTA garbage.

    Well, I wouldn't rule them out at the moment, a DS forum member has some info but will not be releasing it until later this week, regarding the official launch date and the position for Five US and FIVER.

    But I would direct you to this post on DS - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=28523989&postcount=314 - Makes for some interesting reading about what five could do to make it quite annoying for viewers in ROI to watch their channel...

    <waves>

    Yes, let's hope they don't choose to use it that often - and that FIVER and FIVEUS get on 2D pretty soon too. I would surmise that what everyone is saying on DS is right, that they are testing the 'ability' to block out certain programmes where there could be a rights issue, but hopefully that these will be few and far between.

    Although having just scanned http://five.tv I can't say I'm holding my breath for anything that exciting...........

    Excellent coming in loud and clear...wonder how long that has been there?

    I hope they don't block the good stuff.

    Two FIVE threads merged.

    If they start blocking content, I assume it'll be certain sporting rights they may have. If they block imported programmes, there'll be little point in having FIVE US free to air at all.

    Good stuff. Hope the EPG follows shortly

    There may be a long wait for EPG info for those using a Sky box. The Freesat FTA Channel ID's for some of the C4 channels still have no ID or Now and next info.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭mjsmyth

    Good to have 5 finally fta. The quality of the picture is excellent and although there does not seem to be any epg, not even now and next, there is teletext on page 500.

    There's potentially another more difficult way if they thought it through. They could use a different Symbol Rate to that used by a Sky box, the same way used to prevent Irish boxes from manually tuning in C4 HD. ;)

    GREAT thanks all :D

    Its sharing a txp with BBC, so that can't be done...

    No programme info yet but you can see all the listings here which is handy. It certainly makes the Freesat/Sat4Free product much more interesting now especially if Sky refuse to add it to the Irish Sky EPG rendering it inoperable with Sky+.

    Won't this be the final nail in the coffin for the FREESAT from Sky propriety FTV Card or BBC FTV Card as it was know in the early days.

    Has anyone added the C5 Test channel to a Bush SD Freesat Box?

    I have tried manually adding the channel without success. The software doesn't to allow me to adjust the FEC to 5/6.

    Yes - I got 'Five' on my Bush SD no problem - you don't need to set the 5/6 - just set the 10773,H,22000 and scan - you get about 6 BBC transmissions/test - one of which is 'Five'.You must also select show non freesat svcs in the menu - as well as adding the svcs. You can delete the ones you don't want - from the channel list (via LIST button) once the 6 are added to the list.

    Fifth Gear is on when the Gadget Show is off, and vice versa. Fifth Gear ended there about 3 weeks ago, and since then the gadget show has been on.

    I have full EPG's for all the Channel 4 group channels on my freesat?

    Great news C5 is finally here. I have a UK freesat box and use analogue terrestrial for RTE, the only thing watched on RTE is H*me and Aw*y by the missus, so now she can see it on C5 she has no excuse for moanin at me cos she doesnt know how to flick between freesat and analogue :rolleyes:.

    Some good programming on C5 - House, CSI, Gadget Show (Suzi Perry ;)), 5th Gear. Presumably because I'm using a UK system it wont be affected by any C5 scrambling due to RTE copyrights?

    @BArra

    What type of setup have you?

    Just an update to all on the blocked programmes issue with Five and freesat.

    Just noticed that a film called "Lucy" based on the I love Lucy television show has had its programme blocked on freesat from 3pm to 5pm!

    Hardly a good selling point! 2 Hours of lost viewing at least!

    However on SKY this film shows without any problems.

    So looks like freesat has already shot itself in the foot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭mjsmyth

    @FreedomJoe

    I fail to see how freesat has shot itself in the foot. Since Five has not officially launched on freesat yet and is still only in test, we don't know how this blocking of programs will work. Perhaps they are testing an automated system?

    Wait and see what happens. Oh and to be honest, loosinga 2 hour movie on Lucille Ball is not exactly a tragedy..

    I agree. Freesat is now dead because Lucy wasn't shown. Those fools I say, those fools.
